Usually doing something physically active. one of my favourites is going to the driving range and letting out my frustration on some golf balls.

just going for a fast walk helps as well though to let off some steam

Like the wise fellow above me, I try and do something active. It takes the edge off and makes me feel I've harnessed the momentum a bit.

After a fair amount of ranting and cursing, that is, lol.

Two quick deep breaths in, then a long exhale. Repeat until mind is clear.

Then think of a pleasant thought, a happy thought. Barring that, do something productive. Anything to restart the cycle of "positive action leads to positive feelings leads to positive thoughts leads to positive actions leads to...".

You can jump into that cycle anywhere, really. Not feeling good? Do something nice for someone. Brain full of bad thoughts? Think of a pleasant memory.

Pray. Talk it out with people close to me. Seek advice on the issue causing my bad mood. Read Reddit posts on the issue to see if others have experienced it.

Step aside, verbally express my displeasure in a proportionately forceful manner in a private setting, take a few deep breaths, maybe have a drink or a quick break. Done. I'm calm again.

Got it down to something almost like a ritual. I call it "doing the John McEnroe."

yes, ranting and cursing before the activity is a important part of the process.

Work out. I've been getting in bad moods lately, might be seasonal. Weather is really warm and enjoying the heat, but man I get miserable. I lift weights and go for 1-2 hour walks. I feel great afterwards.

Depends on how bad the mood is. Usually can smoke some weed and play some games or play with the cat to force me to think about something else. Go on a loud rant to myself and vent all my frustrations. Or if I need more help, talk to my gf or someone else I hold dear. If all else fails, go to bed and sleep. Might wake up happier.

i cant do that. makes my mind go into overdrive. alcohol does the opposite it quietens my mind, anaesthetises any anxty feelings, but obviously not something you want to be doing regularly. you cant wake up in the morning in a real bad mood and knock back a couple of vodkas for breakfast lol. ive got a nice stash of valiums which have a similar calming effect but keep you perfectly lucid and functional. i'll take one of those if i'm in a particularly bad mood but have important shit to do i.e. work.

but yeah depends on how bad the mood is. often playing with the dog, speaking with my gf or playing with my little nephews puts things into perspective. gym is good to take aggression out. walking helps think things through
