I have two. One is when people get "th" and "f" mixed up, especially when distinguishing between "deaf" and "death". I've heard people say "My grandad is death", when they really mean "deaf".

Also plural mix ups such as using words like criteria and bacteria as a singular nouns and not using the us>i and the um>a plural form correctly.

Do you have any unusual grammatical pet peeves?

A sentence ending in "at". As in, "Where is that at?". Also, when people are dum.

Switching a theta to an 'f' isn't really a grammar error, and the accepted plural forms for many English words don't follow the Latin transformations you described. I have too many grammatical pet peeves to list them all. "Could/should/would of" instead of "could/should/would have." Tense shifts, number shifts, and gender shifts. Incorrect relative pronouns. Many, many more.

Pretty much everything. :P

I especially hate people who don't use apostrophes, or use them incorrectly. My most hated example of this is people using "it's" when they should be using "its". I also despise people mixing up "their", "they're" and "there". I lose a little more faith in humanity every time I see that.

I really only started developing them after doing languages extensively at school, and realising what I hear lots of people saying is incorrect and won't help me with foreign languages.

I wouldn't've thought that was possible to put two in one word - I should of thought that's where it's at ....

I can see why some people are confused by it though. Since the apostrophe is used to show posseion usually, people tend to think the apoostrophe should be used for the wrong its/

I don't bother with how people type on forums and stuff. For a lot of people English might not be their first language, so it's fair enough to expect mistakes. Plus it's an internet forum, it's not for publication. What really does my head in is lazy, incorrect English as spoken by the English. Like:

People that say 'pacific' when they mean 'specific'.

When people say 'myself' when they mean 'me'.

Use of the word 'party' as a verb.

The proliferative use of the word 'like' into sentences in which it doesn't belong. As in, "so I was, like, so angry that...". It doesn't make any difference to the emphasis or meaning of the sentence. it can also be used to irritating effect like this: "so I was just, like, what?". Doesn't even make sense.

And of course there is the famous High Rising Intonation, whereby every sentence becomes a question. Usage of the HRI is clearly grounds for compulsory euthanasia.

You're lucky it's more specific to one region. Here in New Zealand saying "brought" instead of "bought" (and vice versa) is disgracefully common.

"Their" and "there" can be of slight annoyance at times. When I read articles or posts mixing up grammatical errors such as that, I tend to become confused. I don't really have any peeves with grammar other than things such as that.

In regards to modern communication, I hate LOL, epic, and fail. This is not exactly grammar just a related complaint.

Just about anything. English is what I do and I surely don't know every rule, but there's no need to not understand the basics. Such as they're/their/there or you're/your. Those really bother me. I'm not a fan of u instead of you or especially dat (as opposed to that). It sounds...moronic. In a text it's (that's another: its/it's) more acceptable because you only have so much space but in a forum or in an instant message, there's no need for 2's and 4's. Even though some people don't grasp the to/too/two concept either.

[QUOTE="Taylor_B"]Switching a theta to an 'f' isn't really a grammar error, and the accepted plural forms for many English words don't follow the Latin transformations you described. I have too many grammatical pet peeves to list them all. "Could/should/would of" instead of "could/should/would have." Tense shifts, number shifts, and gender shifts. Incorrect relative pronouns. Many, many more.

I understand your point but as I said it's when they use "F" in the wrong place when they should use a "Th" like in the example I gave (also wrath and raff-both are valid words but with two completely different meanings). The pronounciation of a "th" as a "f" does sometimes annoy me, but some people can't help it and in which case I'm not bothered. As for the plurals, I know lots of words ending in "um" can also have the plural "ums", but it's for words that don't have this as the correct form that annoy me e.g bacterium and plectrum are both singular and their plurals are used nonstandardly in the singular form (it's from doing biology at advanced level where you encounter lots of odd plurals such as epiglottis>epiglottides). Also you can't say "criterions" as a plural. Basically it's when people use plural forms that are incorrect.
