Pennsylvania father Tuan Huynh, 47, pleaded guilty on Tuesday to a misdemeanor charge of endangering the welfare of a child under 18 stemming from his arrest for abandoning his 16 year-old daughter near the Cheltenham Mall for receiving a low grade in calculus.

"She was devastated. She wandered quite a ways looking for help," Assistant District Attorney Cara McMenamin siaid. She initially refused to give her name and admitted she had been told "by them not to tell the police who you are." The officers identified her by her music book-reportedly the girl aspires to being a concert pianist. The affidavit continued, "She further stated that she was no longer home because she was not meeting her parent's expectations, and that there had been many arguments over her failing grades."

Source.

How awful!

I hope the father is okay after that terrifying revelation. Low grades should never be permitted. I'm surprised he went easy on that failure of a child.

My thoughts exactly.

Growing up some of my best friends were Chinese and in some of their households, an A- was completely unacceptable. It was depressing.

Same. My girlfriend in high school was Japanese and an A- was literally unnacceptable, she would get in trouble. But, she ended up becoming valedictorian so it worked out I guess... picture that, a valedictorian with me... lol. We were pretty much the exact opposite in high school. She barely did anything before she met me.

Easy. You show show me someone who academics are their entire would and I'll show you someone who is oblivious and completely lacking in basic life skills. Thus seems to be the case with this girl.

I got As and Bs too, graduated with a 3.8 so I wasn't completely stupid. But I did stupid things... Which her family did not approve I'm sure. She was half German Half Japanese, so you can imagine what those two cultures do when they come together. Strict Lutheran family, like, to the max.

The article said she didn't have a cell phone or money with her. So yeah, that doesn't leave a whole lot of options for getting back home.

Who cares about her options of traveling home? Even if she owned a 100 private jets, her dad leaving her there at age 16 over 'grades' was still a major c*nt move.

It also specified she had no money. I'm sure she could have asked somebody for a few dollars to get home, but imagine being her. She's been thrown out, she can't go home, and phoning would be useless.

You omitted the verb from the adverbial subclause of your second sentence because you're a degenerate, knuckle-dragging Caucasian throwback.

Sounds like the mom is even worse. She didn't want to admit that she was the girl's mother.

Jeez 16? She sounded 8 from the article. If my dad just left me at the mall, I'd go look at shoes and video games then walk to a friends house and be like "my dad's a cvnt, can I stay here for a minute?"

 This is Pennsylvania not New York. You'd be lucky to find buses anywhere near a mall out where I live. HOWEVER, the mall she was at was near Philadelphia so I'd assume she could manage something. Hell she could probably walk if she lived in the city.

Was tutoring not an option? The parent seems authoritarian because rather than giving an alternative course of action such as tutoring a chance, he decided to abandon her. It was a very strict and uncompromising decision.

No need to over analyze it, we dont know the prior history. What we do know is that she's 16, she's unable to care for herself, and she doesn't work a job or try at school. And her father kicked her out due to those reasons.

Saw: "...abandoned [...] over low grade." Thought: "Asian."
