Ok....so i go to Gamestop today to pick up a 3 month subscription to xbox live and get a new mic. So i ask for the 3 month card and a mic and he tells me "well for only $30 more u get a 12 month subscription and a mic." I say no thanks( i only have enough on me for a mic and 3 month card). Then he goes on a 10 min rant on how i'm passing up on a terrific deal and how he thinks its a "no brainer". After 10 mins of harrasment he tries to sell me an EBedge card. Once again this is a "no brainer" sayin ill save %15 blah blah blah....finally i get really irrated and tell him to shut up and give me the products i payed for. God, why do they have to be so damn pushy....just give me the friggin thing i payed for.

P.S.

If u are a gamestop salesman i mean no offense by this...unless you're one of those pushy a-holes

Yeah, its like when someone starts working there they lose all concept of what the word obnoxious means. Either that or they just dont care. This strategy is probably costing them more business than making it.

I hate when they try to force you to pre-order something. That's why Gamestop is my last resort when buying games.

Gamestop associates don't get commission (I used to be one) but there is a lot of pressure to sell the add-on stuff from the manager/ district manager, etc. The corporate retail world is getting to be a terrible place (for the associates and for the customers) because it is becoming more and more about the bottom line than good product knowledge and customer service.

Well, everytime I go to Bestbuy, they always do that crap, so now I only bring enough for what I'm buying. They also escort me to the register everytime probably since they think people with long hair and a led zepplin shirt is "suspicious"

I've never had much of a problem there and I go there quite often. The most they do is ask me if I would like to reserve an up coming game based on the type of game I'm purchasing or the system its for. I tell them "yay" or "nay" and that's the end of it.

This whole post and topic title became a contradiction with that P.S.

I've met a couple, but most are either stiffs or cool, friendly, and relaxed.

One time I went in there to buy a few new games totalling around $120. When I get to the counter, the salesman says how those games suck (Metroid Prime 3 and Bioshock) and says I should get some licensed crap instead (I don't remember what it was). I said no and he persisted so I just walked out of the store without buying anything and saying I would just get them at the Target across the parking lot. When walking out the store, I looked back and the guy had a look like I just stole his money. I loved it and Target actually cost me less money. Aparenly Gamestop people get paid by commision or something.

Then why are they so obsessed with trying to get people to spend more money?

I place product on desk near register.

GS Employee: Did you find everything you were looking for?

Me: Yep.

GS: Did you want to preorder anything today?

Me: Nah, I'm all set. Thanks.

GS: Ok, that'll be $52.49.

That is what happens upwards of 90% of the time...And I've been shopping by myself at GS and EB for over 8 years.

I don't know why a lot of people have so many problems...just politely decline if you don't want it. And don't give them an attitude, unless you want one back.

Sales people are pushy in general. That's their job. They wouldn't be pushy if it didn't lead to more sales.

Commissions are bonuses that salespeople get forsellingitems for a company. For instance, if they sell a 300$ console they may get an extra 10$ in their pay check for each one sold.

wow..

THEY DONT GET COMMISSION!!!

Its just pressure from their manager/boss....anybody can sit behind a register and cash people out, so its not like the manager is gonna have a hard time finding employees....

They look for the employees that can bring in the most money....so if an employee isnt getting all of these extra sales....then whats the point of them being there? And they risk the chance of being fired.....so they try really hard to sell all that extra stuff...

Yes its annoying...no its not their choice to be like that...its just they dont want to get fired...

Are you guys like 11? Its a company....not a place to service your needs

Salespersons are just doing what management want them to do, its just their jobs. If you really have a big problem with it, take it out on the manager and not the clerk.

Good management generally realises that customer service is usually more profitable than pushy salesmanship. Customer service will bring in long term and loyal customers, which is better than a one time [pissed off]customer who bought some add-on merchandise.

They don't get commission, but they do track what they sell. I never had that problem at the Gamestop I go to, but sometimes they do squeeze in a comment about getting a higher priced item. It's like when I went to buy Halo 3, and they mentioned "Oh, you're not going to get the Legendary package?". It depends on the person, though. One Gamestop that I usually go to is pretty good with not being pushy, but being helpful... This other one I went to had a really talkative person, but he seemed to have the "know it all" attitude.

Simple, tell him you'll buy it but only give him the money that you originally planned to spend, then if he dosn't accept it ask him y it's such an amazing deal if you end up spending more for something you don't want

Because you should be smart enough to understand it's the corporation's idea to get the managers to push the employees to persuade consumers to buy more and more. What fine academic institution are you attending? Clearly you haven't/don't take(n) any sort of business class. And yes, I'm probably going to the parade.

The clerks at the store I frequent are ok. They mumble and aren't friendly, but they give me the "Pre order games" spiel in about 2 seconds, they're alright.Â
