I had to sit through three hours of learning all kinds of crap about functions that I've forgotten since high school and I think my brain exploded. I mean they are just nasty things that should be used to torture terrorists, not be used to torture students....lol
This will be my last semester of math (hurray) but I hope I make it through this alive....

Once our teacher taught us how to do them without calculators, she didn't care if we used them.

I think integrals/anti-derivatives would be more difficult for kids than derivatives lol.
derivatives are easy; they're just applying formulae. integrals however is an art, not to mention one of the most difficult things in the world... ever... i mean; beating alma on master ninja's easier than most of the integrals i have in my maths tests.
I am so glad I will never have to take a math class again. everything from 9th grade to senior year was just so completely worthless! the only math I ever have to do can be done easily with a simple calculator.

Well, if you happen across a time machine, do us a favor. Finish the person who invented public school.
Functions can be everything from pathetically easy to ridiculously hard.
Integrals in particular can be extremely obnoxious. I had a multivariable calculus class where we were doing silly stuff like calculating forward and centrifugal acceleration of an object moving on a near-random path in 3D represented by a time function. To be honest I've blocked most of it from memory as it almost made my head explode.
Or you can get into solving non-linear optimization problems by hand, which is a ton of fun.
The Maths I did at school never got much harder than trigonometry, the ones I'm doing now include set theory, modulus and that kind of thing, Sounds like you guys have it much tougher than I did.
Actually f(x) = y. :| Anyways, yeah, I hated them too until you understand them, then its not so bad. Go see the teacher and see them soon. The sooner you get help the sooner you can understand it and you dont have to go through all that crap that comes with struggling needlessly through math.

There's like 11 weeks left in the semester and than I'm done with math forever!!! Yay.... Assuming I stay an English major.
