Found an iPod Touch on the train today

I can't believe it, went to take the light rail home today after out looking for a job and iPod Touch was wedged between the seat and the wall of the train right under the window. I noticed it when I reached over for my bag and spotted it.

Of course I took it home, now I'm not sure whether or not I want to try and return it to it's owner or if I should keep it..Ugh I swear decisions, I probably should return it knowing the person probably got this as a gift or worked hard to purchase it in these tough times.

What do you all think I should do? :

If that was my iPod Touch, I would hope someone would be kind enough to return it or submit it to a lost and found. So, personally, I would return it.

Return it. There has to be some contact information somewhere on it that you can use to return it to the owner.

If you just take it, without any attempt to give it back to the owner, you would be stealing IMO.

It's an iPod, you're doing the original owner a favour by taking it.

Also, anything revealing in the library?

That's the way I see it as well..I personally believe if I bring it to the transit system's lost & found all will happen is someone there will just take it for themselves..I'm going to call up Apple about this.

like the other day my sister found a new lg phone in the girls lockerroom from her college and she wanted to keep it but she decided to give it back(keep in mind this was very very very new it still had its screen protection thing on) and when my sister gave it back to the girl the girl didnt even care she didnt even say thank u she just said " theres my phone" and took it

my sister was like wtf what a *insert swearword i cant say on gamespot* and wished she kept it

Well yesterday when I order some pizza for lunch the clerk gave me extra change and I decided to keep it. Well today I had somethin stolen from me so I learned my lesson. I would return it tc if I where you.

That is what I figured, but you never know. You always gotta be cautious with technology and whether it can be traced. I mean who woulda thought that years ago w3hen cellphones were first coming out that they would be able to be traced to a specific location

Okay well I called Apples Tech support, basically I was told there's nothing they could do about it. I asked if they could take the serial number and trace it maybe they told me it wouldn't be worth the hassle of doing that for both parties and my best bet would be to return it to an Apple Store and drop it off at their lost & found department.

So here's what I am going to do..I am going to make a flier that says the following "FOUND: iPod Touch on 1/6/2010, if you have lost this item, please call 201-***-**** and if you can provide the serial number, or describe the case or give the name on the iPod Touch I will arrange a time to return it." I'll give that a week to run it's course, I plan on posting the fliers on the train on a few different trains.

I'd go to an Apple Store but it's out of my way and I'm unemployed and can't really afford the travel over there just to return an iPod Touch which probably won't even get returned, just refurbished and re-sold at the store. Does that sound like a good idea..?

If it were a place people often return to, or a place someone usually thinks of looking, I'd return it (IE Work, school.) But half the people who take a train won't be back (for a while) and it's one of the few places they're think to look. Do they even have lost and founds there?

Okay well I called the Transit System and was basically told I'm not allowed to hang up any fliers on anything Transit related because it'd be advertising and it isn't permitted unless I pay for it (Which I can't afford to do). They told me to just return the item to a train conductor on the train I was riding yesterday and that they will return it to their lost & found directory.

I don't think I am going to do that, (Not trying to sound like a jackass) but I don't trust lost & found systems really because my belief is most people working there will swipe anything and either keep it or give it to a family member or sell it.

So I'm not sure what to do next with it, unless I just keep it. What do you guys think I should do?
