What is it and why? No excuses like you have lots of favourites!

Mine:

Apocalypse Now - Because I love surrealism and war movies and this film gives the best of both.

The Shawshank Redemption. A nearly perfect film adaptation of a nearly perfect novella.

Although I'm probably a little more biased than most as I read the novella first (and a book is almost always better than a film adaption).

I just can't think of anything bad about it. At all. I've tried, but I just can't.

Dog Day Afternoon - Generally acting isn't my top priority as an aesthetic in films but the biggest reason I love DDA is Pacino's performance, which I maintain thinking is the greatest of all time.

Jason Bourne trilogy

Bourne Supremacy

Tom Cronin: He's making his first mistake.
Nicky: It's not a mistake. They don't make mistakes. They don't do random. There's always an objective. Always a target.
Pamela Landy: The objectives and targets always came from us. Who's giving them to him now?
Nicky: Scary version? He is.

Pamela Landy: What if I can't find her?
Jason Bourne: It's easy. She's standing right next to you.(as he looks down the scope)

2001 A Space Odyssey- Perfectly directed, with some mind blowing scenes, any scene that is playing to the Blue Danube Waltz

The General- Hilarious, heart warming, and it literally never gets boring. At one moment, never. I cant say that for any other movie.

Bladerunner. I just love how it conveys so much with so little dialogue not to mention the fact the visuals and scenery is beyond amazing. And OMG the soundtrack.

Raiders of the Lost Ark takes number one for me. In terms of pure escapism, it doesn't get better than Indiana Jones. Throw in the childhood hero factor, and it's easily my all time fav.

Forgot about that, had to watch it in my 9th grade English class, thought I would hate it and the book, both extremely good and recommended to everybody.

TheMadGamer

Gattaca was an awesome movie, and one that more people need to see.

I refuse to pick a single movie as my favorite. There are just too many great ones.

EDIT- If someone put a gun to my head and forced me to pick one, I'd say Star Trek- First Contact.

Taxi Driver: Simply because I think Travis is a great movie character (maybe the greatest) and I kind of identify myself with him. Also Cybill Shepherd was gorgeous in that movie.

I think I agree with this one... Sure I didn't see it until 20 or so years after it came out, but everything about it, I just loved. It's one of those movies I can watch over and over again and not get tired of (and very few movies are like that for me).

Any of these will do:

- 2001: A Space Odyssey

- The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

- Mulholland Dr.

- Blade Runner

- The Godfather

I don't have a "flat out" favorite but one of my top picks is Major Barbara from 1941. Although the political message is a tad overbearing towards the end, overall the actors, their characters, and the dialogue are just amazing things of beauty to behold.

I don't really like watching movies but Moon was a great film. Honestly, I think it's the closest I've come to connecting with ANY fictional character.
