Death metal, mosty old school with a small smattering of melodic, technical and brutal, but not a huge deal of each.
Black metal - pretty much any subgenre of this I'll like, if the band is decent enough.
Thrash metal - not the best IMO, but I like the big 4 (only first 2 metallica albums though, MOP was sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet), Sodom, Kreator, Exodus, early death angel and Dark Angel. Maybe a few others I'm not sure
Traditional metal - self explanatory
gothic and doom - stuff like my dying bride, candlemass, virgin black, draconian, nox aurea, fall of the idols, swallow the sun,saturnus,The Gathering (mid era), etc.
symphonic power metal. Stuff like nightwish, within temptation, delain, leaves eyes, edenbridge, female fronted stuff mainly.
Think thats it, not a fan of progressive or power, havent heard any sludge or stoner though. Nu metal and metalcore are an obvious no.
I like a LOT of grindcore, but more the punky sort of stuff rather than the crappy more metally stuff made nowadays which focuses on nothing but uber brutality.
