im curious to know what other gamers listen too.

so. whats your favorite genre of music? Favorite Band? why?

My favorite genre would be Metal, because of its diversity. anything from thrash metal(megadeth, Old-school Metallica, Anthrax) power/melodic metal(sonata arctica, Falconer, cains offering) Nu-metal (System of a down, linkin park) and just plain ol metal (ozzy osbourne, the sword, priestess, etc.Idont care forthe growls ofdeath metal though... thats just annoying.

my favorite band? depending on what mood im in, Sonata Arctica, or Metallica. if youve never heard of sonata arctica, go listen to them now! ecliptica first!

you cant kill the metalsonata arctica

Favorite genre: Metal Why? The riffs (Also it is diverse and has something for me regardless of my mood) Favorite sub-genre: Death Metal (Also one of the more diverse sub-genres, and it is just more enjoyable then most other sub-genres once you get used to it IMO.) Why? the RIFFS Favorite band: Immolation Why? DA ******* RIFFS! (And solos...and drumming :P...but mostly the riffs)

I don't really have one.
But I'd say it's between

  • "Alternative Rock", including punk, pop-punk, etc.
  • Metal (especially symphonic)

and

  • Folk

Genre: Deathcore

Reason: I like metal, I like the harsh vocals but i dislike heavy cowbells and find guitar solo's cheesy which deathcore doesn't have, however it has breakdowns which I find rhythmically badass.

Bands: The Devil Wears Prada, We Butter The Bread With Butter, Born of Osiris, Miss May I, Bleed From Within, As Blood Runs Black, BrokenCYDE.

While I dislike your taste in Deathcore, besides WBTBWB, I want to give you some good Electro Deathcore bands to make your list of bands a bit better.

Take Back The Roman Empire

Shemales From Outta Space of Death

One Morning Left

Sadly I only know a few Electro Deathcore bands, but the genre is pretty new.

Yes those are all very good bands too! I've only heard One Morning Left but the other too are great as well. I hope the genre catches on to be honest, I LOOOOOOOOVE the outerspace 80's alien vibe from the song "schnitzeljagd im veganerwald" by Take Back The Roman Empire.

I like metal, and some of my current favorite bands are Ulcerate (got Everything Is Fire on release, listened to it off and on, and then it clicked; haven't put it down since), Anaal Nathrakh, Psycroptic, Anata, Augury (just saw them live!), Deathspell Omega, Immolation (thanks to Darth), Belphegor, Rotting Christ, and a few others.

Most of them fall under the progressive or technical death metal styIes. I love the odd riffs/rhythms, layered production, and unique soundscapes they create. For example I can listen to Everything Is Fire by Ulcerate numerous times and hear something new every time thanks to the mixing and layered production techniques. Same goes for the few black metal artists on the list (Deathspell Omega in particular). Old Belphegor is the undisputed king of the blackened death styIe, and their new stuff is catchy as well. Rotting Christ is just great all around...

Favourite Genre: Black Metal

Why? The Atmosphere.

Black Metal takes me to a different place. With the Heavily distorted and rhythmic guitars accompanied by shrieking vocals I can picture myself looking into cold/foggy Norwegian mountains. I like it because it captures the self destructive and flawed nature of human kind. There is something about BM that is magic to me.

Favourite Bands: Well this constantly changes but lately I have been listening to allot of Dissection.

Disco, 80's, Post Punk, Indie, house (mainly from early 90's)… A variety I guess. Why? Eclectic is the spice of music life, and I'm a sucker for nostalgia and digging up leftfield 80's grooves.

Wesley Willis is the most amazing musician to ever live. You may have heard his song "Rock and Roll McDonalds" from the Super Size Me but his other songs are way better.

And do all the people in this thread actually take black metal seriously? Dudes in Kiss makeup singing about satan, elves, and forests with music that sounds like it was recorded by a cell phone with a wet sock over it. Wow so Evil!!!

i listen to New wave, gothic, industrial, deathrock.

I like Gothic music because of all the things it explores and themes that it spans through. it's technically not a genre, but a theme, a way of thinking, and form of expression. It's one of the few kinds of music that tells me the truth

i like deathrock too. It's a form of post punk that basically looked at punk rock and said "hey there is some potential here. But it's too rough around the edges. So lets make the guitar more subtle, and the basslines heavier"

Gothic metal (preferably female fronted). I like it because, well, aside from being gothic, it generally has more melodic guitar and lots of symphonic and orchestral elements. Also a dark fantasy feel at times.

Industrial is probably my favorite. It's like a mixture of New wave, metal, Rock, and techno.

my favorite bands are velvet acid christ, interlace, miguel and the living dead, Deathstars, Pride and Fall, and the birthday massacre.

I just saw them live 3 days ago with some awesome metal bands. There was a metal vs. scene fight due to someone doing ninja moves in the pit, and after they got death threats from some big metal guy, they left. :P I didn't mind them live. They did a good job with their material and got the crowd moving, although I can't say I'm a regular fan of their stuff.

Well, I'm an atheist so I do not take the religious aspects seriously. Satan is a bi-product from Christianity, and Christianity got shoved down allot of peoples throats when they were younger, so its understandable why groups take to a satanic image (to be what religious people feared.) There are only a very small number of black metal bands that actually believe and worship in 'satan.'

Real Satanism (aka the belief in staying true to yourself and your desires regardless of societal morals and values; it is atheistic as well), however, is a very rare topic amongst black metal artists and so far I've only seen it used lyrically in the more sophisticated bands (Deathspell Omega, Glorior Belli, the French scene really).

I'm mostly into "cIassic rock", probably because I was raised on both that and 90's pop music :P Favorite bands include Led Zeppelin, The Doors, Cream, etc. I just love the originality and soul that is put into the music of the 60s and 70s

Pretty diverse but my favorites genres are:

Metal: Thrash/death/black/groove/doom/sludge/stoner some of my favorites are Pantera, Slayer, PIG DESTROYER, Meshuggah, Acid Bath, Death, Converge, Crowbar, Sleep, Soilent Green, Megadeth, old school Metallica, Black Sabbath, Obituary, Celtic Frost, Celeste, Mastodon, Anthrax, Machine Head etc.

And finally punk, mostly 80s hardcore and 70s punk. Also love grindcore, crust, power violence, metallic hardcore, crossover and anarcho. Some of my favorite punk bands are: PIG DESTROYER, Black Flag, Minor Threat, Converge (yeah I know I mentioned them twice), Cryptic Slaughter, Crucifix, Discharge, Ramones, The Clash, Insect Warfare, Misfits, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Siege, Sonic Youth etc. I've also been getting into a lot of trip hop, shoegaze, oldschool hip hop, jazz, blues and noise (in no particular order). So yeah I basically like a lot of music. Also I LOVE Pig Destroyer. So um yeah.

Progressive Rock.

It's a sub-genre which contains Porcupine Tree, Pink Floyd, Ozric Tentacles, King Crimson, and Rush. It's made out of champion-ness.

As for my favorite band, I flip-flop between Porcupine Tree, Ozric Tentacles, and Blind Guardian.

Yes, I know Blind Guardian doesn't have anything to do with the genre I was talking about.

I don't care.

They're awesome.

Genre: My bread-and-butter is indie/alternative-type stuff, but I listen to virtually everything that isn't metal.

Artists: Way too many to list. As of now though, my top 10 would probably be (in no particular order):

  1. The National
  2. Constantines
  3. Broken Social Scene
  4. Pavement
  5. LCD Soundsystem
  6. Spoon
  7. Public Enemy
  8. Neil Young
  9. The Rural Alberta Advantage
  10. Robert Johnson

Id say progressive rock, or just anything "progressive". Simply put, I can enjoy any music that isn't cliche. I can listen to modern rock, classic rock, progressive rock, blues, instrumental rock, jazz, indie, hard rock, funk, math rock. I'm not a big fan of metal or rap/hip-hop but there are a select few songs that I listen to. At the moment I'd say my favorite artists are The Mars Volta, The Mercury Program, Toe, Porcupine Tree, and Charlie Hunter. Good stuff people, good stuff.

My fav genres are Alternative Rock/Alternative Metal; I just like hard rock/metal instrumentation but also actual singing and meaningful lyrics.

My fav band right now is probably Soundgarden, other top bands for me: Rage Against the Machine, Faith No More, Pearl Jam, Jane's Addiction, Nine Inch Nails, Nirvana, Radiohead, Shihad and System of a Down.
