Poll and Discussion

PS: as always lets keep prases like " master of puppets" , "Rifts", "Stock" and emailing bands to change their genre's to a minimum

Tie between prog and speed/thrash. Can't really listen to any other kinds of metal.

Thrash Metal, easily. Megadeth, early Metallica, Slayer are some amazing stuff.

And yes, while some people might throw stones, its also why I dig System of a Down. Sure, they clearly just seem like a hodge podge of Slayer and Dead Kennedys but I like what they do. PS. I'm not saying SoaD are thrash metal but definitely very heavily influenced.

I also like Industrial but mainly just for Nine Inch Nails, arguably how Industrial they are any more is up for debate.

Yeah, SOAD's earlier stuff definitely had thrash influences. I hate when people call them nu metal :x.

Yeah true! I love Mastodon. Shame that one singer can't really sing live (the guitarist). The bass player is pretty decent singer live though. Brann, the drummer is a freakin beast.

Haha I felt the same after seeing them live. It's the stocky one, he can't sing crap. But they do play well, one of my favorite metal bands.

Yeah they really aren't, I mean nu metal has rap elements but the problem is a lot of SoaD is devoid of solos and solo-less metal is often just branded as nu metal.

i agree, a lot of death metal to me seems very juvinile and primitive musicwise with the exceptions of a few bands of course (DEATH) while black seems more musical and IMO at least .. more approachable / digestable.. i dont know if its just me but i prefer high pitched screams that are more easy to understand than growls that sound like the guys throwing up ( lol corpsegrinder )

My favorites are power, trash, symphonic, death/prog(go Opeth) but I think I would go with power metal as my favorite metal genre.

you are correct, they are alt metal. I always thought nu-metal was rap-metal. And I just listed my two favorite sub-genres up there. I was never a fan of growling/screaming vocals.

I like industrial type metal, and I hesitate to use that phrase because I do not mean NIN or KMFDM. I mean bands like Ministry, godflesh, early fear factory, early Pitchshifter,Skrew. You know, stuff thats heavy with computers and industrial sounds, but closer to death.

What are your fave thrash bands? I never got super into thrash but I feel like checking out some bands. I'm not sure if this counts but I really like pleasures of the flesh by Exodus.
