Would be nice if someone broadcast something like this instead of season 67 of whatever reality show.Very cool speech. Too bad nobody never listens to things like this... I wish they would though.

Sure would... The problem is, most people would just change the channel or complain that whatever crap they like isn't on TV... It would fall on deaf ears I think.

instead of broadcasting this, why not have it for tv commercials? I think it's a great ideal
You do know the speech was about the world being messed up but that if man would work together we have the power to do incredible things, right? That's more true now than the time when the speech was made. We're far better off now than we were during World War II.Great speech. Too bad his word mean nothing in this **** up world.

Definitely, I feel really inspired now. really ? Inspired ? Maybe I'm just missing something. But was it not just a video of someone saying. "greed has taken over" and other cliched stuff ? That's good don't get me wrong. But I didn't think it was particularly insightful.[QUOTE="MushroomWig"][QUOTE="Kcube"]Definitely, I feel really inspired now. really ? Inspired ? I don't think it was very cliched 71 years ago, it inspires people to change and to take notice of what the world has become. It is also an example of how dictators can lead nations falsely with speeches like this in the way hitler did; it acts as a warning in more than one way it would seem.

Very good speech. Especially since the 9/11 ceremony is this Sunday. Quite relevant.michaelP4Well the goverments wouldn't approve of it.
That was one of the most brilliant speeches I've heard in a long time.
No really, that's phenominal speechwriting.
[QUOTE="dkdk999"]What didn't you like? The over-zealous nature of the speech and the answer to greed which he claims is devastating, "plaguing" modern civilization etc.I didn't like it personally.

Not to mention the delivery was absolutely superb. Every single word that he spoke was done so with a mixture of sterness and passion that makes the whole message have serious weight. It's not like he was just casually reading, he was so lucid in his mission to engage his audience that it felt raw to the point of being surreal.

Then what relevance does the speech have if his statement is out of context? In 1940 those were some pretty radical ideas, especially when in the movie Chaplin is talking to the entire German army. While the speech is still good these days to say it was cliche without considering the time it was made and the situation the world was in is flat out wrong. That first bit about treating everyone equally back then was pretty heavy stuff, most countries didn't have equal rights for blacks and were prejudiced against jews. The context adds quite a huge amount to the scene.

He really does care, it's just perfect in every sense, it's more than acting, it's more than a character; it's true meaning and feeling put across in a way that couldn't be more powerful.
