The camera cut to black after Alfred smiling at Bruce, ambiguously hinting at a romantic relationship between the two? Possibly making Selena jealous of them?

What would be the point? Ambiguous endings like that only work when their are two possible outcomes. But given what we hear from Alfred earlier in the film, we'd know the second he smiled that Bruce was there so there is no reason to not show it.
Don't really see the point of making it ambiguous. Although cutting it off at the smile wouldn't necessarily be ambiguous. Maybe it would have worked better even
Would have preferred not showing them. Maybe a bit more impactful given what A. established.
Everything else during the ending cleared any real ambiguity had they done that.

There was a reason he showed the ending as he did.
I agree, but honestly the whole script could have used a lot of fine tuning. The ending isn't really very high on my list of issues that should have been fixed.
Obvs there was a reason. Does not mean I have to think its the best
You can't end a Batman movie without showing he was successful. That's blasphemy dude...
It should have ended with his death. Not that this ending would have made up for the train-wreck before it, but I at least would have walked out of the theater with a smile.

Basically this, only without the smile part. The film doesn't waste any time becoming a hot mess.
Also tc did you get this idea from Demo Reel?
Not sure what Demo Reel is, but I didn't.
I just felt like it would've been more fitting if the camera cut to black before showing Bruce and Selina at the cafe, which I feel would've added a bit of ambiguity and poignancy to the ending scene. Before the ending, we're led to believe that Bruce survived, but never explicitly told. So when Alfred smiles and the camera cuts to black, it would've added a sort of "was he/wasn't he alive?" element that I think would've worked really well. Even with the ending that we got, people debated whether Alfred was imagining things or not. Up until Caine spoiled it in an interview, a lot of people believed it was a dream sequence.
Like you said though, the whole script had its fair share of problems. I just feel that if they had made this one simple change, the ending would've felt a lot better.
As seraph said the ending was the least of the movies issues, though I did really enjoy it anyways.
Yeah I still enjoy the movie, I'm just disappointed in it.
Ambiguity for no reason is annoying. The whole point of the movie is that Bruce was overcoming his need to be Batman, he finally does. Not showing him finally becoming Bruce again after 3 movies of him trying to break away from being Batman makes no sense.
...the camera had cut to black right after Alfred smiles at the cafe, before panning to Bruce and Selina. Basically leaving it up to the viewer if Bruce had actually survived, rather than just blatantly showing it. Anyone else agree?
That would be a classic Nolan move, but it wouldn't have worked for TDKR which was meant to put a definitive end to Nolan's Batman trilogy.

Here I thought I was the only one that thought it was bad.
