I have a girl friend that is about 10 years younger than me, I'm 27. She's my main friend I hang with. We do a lot of stuff together. She's my go to friend for when I need a friend on a family trip, family reunion, cook outs or whatever. It feels good knowing a friend so young can connect to me really good. I remember in college, some guy was making a big deal over me hanging with some 17 year olds girls. To me, if you feel young, you can hang with young girls. Also if you feel that connection. I don't connect at all with girls my age. I have a few guy friends my age. Their girls are always young too.

Do ya'll think age matters with friends?

Yeah, I'm close to being 10 years older than my cohort at school. It doesn't bother me that much, nor them. There are some noticeable differences though, like the music we listen to and our views on the world. Listening to them bitch about their troubles can be annoying too. sigh, what it is to be young.

"I remember in college, some guy was making a big deal over me hanging with some 17 year olds girls." He probably thought you were taking advantage of them or something. I don't see what the problem would be though. I'm assuming you were quite a few years younger in your college years, unless you just recently graduated. Age gap would probably 4 years? No big deal.

If anything is going on now though, I'd say you're just on that line.

I was 25 I believe. Age of consent is 16 over here though.

If you are a 27 year old guy hanging out with a 17 year old girl.... why?

But when it comes to girls, girls can hang out with older or younger. Because it can be seen as a sisterly bond.

But IDK why you would have trouble with people your age that you would have to go to lower age kids. Yes, you can have younger friends, but to only have younger friends seems odd and makes people think what exactly is your issue,

I think maturity level is more important. I have a friend who when we were like 22-23, 17-19 year old girls would flock to him for some reason, and he didn't like it. I remember laughing at that. Now I'm 29, and a lot of 19 year old girls have hit on me this last year.

I wouldn't go as far as calling someone out for that. Whatever floats your boat, and as long as it's legal. I've had 18 years old flirt with me, and ugh. The noticeable difference of maturity totally turns me off. But then again, everyone is different and you can't judge someone just based on their age. But as I said, and answering your initial question, I don't think age really matters with friends.

But what are you doing to her? (I dont men it like that...)

What I mean is that you could be potentially be hindering her.

IDK anyways, I dont fucking know you or what the hell is going on between you too. You could be a guy that looks really young.

I think it depends on the age of the people involved and not necessarily the age difference between them.

when you're younger it matters more.

like a 7th grader hanging out with a 4th grader seems strange

but a 29 year old hanging out with a 26 year hold. who cares?

if there's a connection and people aren't being taken advantage of, who are we to judge?

You 27 and her 17, it's a little odd, especially if You have been friends with her for a few years because 5 years ago you were 22 and her 12.

It's not illegal, so there's that.

That depends on the relative maturity of said friend. My friends tend to be either around the same age or older than me. With that said, when I was in my late 20s I couldn't imagine hanging out with a teenager, and now (I'm 37) I couldn't imagine hanging out with someone in their early 20s.

The optics of it are weird TC. That's just a fact. Also even though your relationship may be platonic I bet the outside world doesn't see it that way when you are hanging out.

Her parents are totally cool with you two being chummy. Also beware. If you remain friends than you will become romantic eventually. Just how guys/girls work.

The problem with any sort of friendship with the opposite sex/gender is the potential of sexual activity. Society has defaulted to this assumption anytime the issue is brought to the table. The age is not really the problem, is the potential of sex is the problem even when its not the agenda.

Does Age matters , well yes of course it does.

Age is in some cases just a number but 27 and 17 is so far apart in the wrong direction that it will be a problem and i would seriously question motives.

Even if that 17 year old is mature as hell, a guy at 27 should not feel the need to hang out with someone that is basically a kid.

Age begins to matter when hanging out with your friend's (who happens to be mature for their age) friends. First off they may not be as mature, second you won't be able to go to places like bars with them, and third it gets to be kinda creepy when they are even younger than your friend. Sitting in the car with an 18 year old girl while you are 23-25 is one thing, but throw in their 15-16 year old friends in the mix and you have a recipe for constant annoyance and a creepy vibe for those who pass you by.

Does Age matters , well yes of course is do.

But there are times where it does not matter, like in your case, 27 and 37 is not that far apart mentally and maturity wise, so there it would not matter.

For me i tend to stick with friends close to my age, tho i do have a few friends who are much older than me.

Under 20 it´s still mostly kids and i tend to stay away from that immaturity.

We're talking 27 and 17 here, so there should be a maturity gap in TS' situation.

I enjoy spending time with people 20-25 years younger, and it's often reciprocal....no problems there, in every way I'm younger than my age by far.

Nope, age doesn't matter at all. I'm 24 and one friend I like to hang with is old enough to be my grandpa.

I have had friends who were a fair bit younger then me as well. Age has never mattered to me. And I don't see why it should.

To a certain point. Being an adult 27 year old and hanging out with 17 year old kids is, i must admit, a little odd...but whatever flloats your boat.

But no I don't really care; I've sat down and shared pints with people I've called friends that are 20 years older than me or 11 years younger.

I don't really care how old people I hang out with are, but at the same time I don't have any friends who I'm interested in hanging out with who are much more than 10 years younger than me (39).

Yeah I feel young and like I will live long, as long as I eat right and exercise. She has some younger sisters I get along good with too. Older girls, they seem bitter towards me. I got only one girl friend close to my age but she moved to another state but she's coming back.

@thehig1:

I think 27 and 17 are fine, even for sex......my feeling is, old enough to drive, old enough to dive. I think 16 should be the national age of consent in the United States.

But......tough penalties for playing with under 16's and being more than 3 years older.

Age doesn't matter to me, one of my best friends is almost twice my age. I had another friend who was in his 70's, he was a really good violin player and was always fun to hang out with.

Older folks usually have really good insight to offer so I try to absorb what I can when I can.
