by white noise, i mean like a constant sound. like a box fan. that drowns out the other sounds your house might make.

can you get to sleep easily without it? with it?

me, i used to just sleep without a fan, always hearing the sounds of the house and hearing myself breath sometimes.or itd just be dead silent and would drive me crazy(kinda along the lines of silence is deafening or something like that)

then one night, we were visiting my grandma, and she lives in a one room apartment. so i slept on the couch while my parents slept on a blow up bed next to me. my mom has slept with a fan, since as long as i can remember. so they had that turned on. loved it. loved how it blocked out all the sounds.

from then on, i started sleeping with a box fan on in my room. now its gotten to the point where i have a hard time falling asleep without it.

i dont have it facing me though, it faces away from me, i just use it for the white noise, which i find soothing.

anyone else need white noise to fall asleep?

Not at all. I can fall asleep with with a fan, but I definitely prefer silence. Can't stand a tv being on though, I don't know how people can fall asleep to that.

i dont know either. i gotta have it as dark as possible for me to be able to sleep.

something as simple as the shine from an alarm clock will drive me crazy(used to have one that had blue led instead of red. drove me crazy and i had to turn it facing the wall to block out the light.)

blue light is the worst. My roommate's computer had a blue light on it that was shining directly at me during the night, used to drive me crazy.

I use a sleep sound, I have a hard time sleeping in complete silence. I do prefer noise, it has to be constant though, any constant noise will work, I could sleep to a jackhammer if it was constantly on.

I have a pretty constant ringing in my ears (only when I'm really paying attention though). So yes, white noise is preferable. I've gotten pretty used to having a desk fan running for most of the whole day and night.

my bipap machine always makes a bit of noise, so I suppose I'm used to that. But I wouldn't say I need white noise to fall asleep necessarily.

Yes. I need some type of noise because I have tinnitus, so I can't sleep without some noise around me.

Nope. I prefer silence so I can hear the creaks of the floors in the house. Let's me know if someone is walking around the house or not....

No I listen to white noise to enjoy and analyse it. My mind would be racing too fast to fall asleep while listening to it.

Me too. Although I' ve gotten used to them so they no more distract me. Either way unless there' s a really annoying noise I can sleep with no problem whatsoever although silence is the best.

I need to have some noise in the room (whether it's a fan, soft music, etc.) while I'm trying to sleep because I have tinnitus and it becomes really awful and difficult to ignore if it's silent.

No, but I sometimes listen to certain kinds of videos on youtube to help me relax. Usually they are repetitive noises like scissors etc.

It doesn't bother me at home, but when I travel I liked to have a bit of white noise in order to drowned out the noises around me.

Not really I like the tranquility but sometimes I open the window because I like the sound of wind passing through and nature. I think it's that contrast of me appreciating the warmth and comfort of bed but also somewhat experiencing the sound of nature and the outside etc.

Sometimes I like having my PC on so I can hear it and go to sleep, instead of it being completely quiet.
