With all these reports about the use of Chemical Weapons on civilians and the dozens of people dying every week (above 100,000 people died since the beginning of the Civil War), do you think the US or NATO should enter Syria to try and stop this? Obama doesn't, as nobody, want to send forces to a place that'll be Iraq 2 or something like that but while people are sitting doing nothing civilians continue to die.

Stopping unnecessary bloodshed would be nice but after Iraq and Afghanistan, combined with budget cuts and the military going through a drawdown I don't see the American public going for it. If America doesn't take the lead it is unlikely other countries will go in. Also, I spent almost three weeks in a chemical suit minus the mask in 2003 when we invaded Iraq. That is not fun at all especially when the temperature is pushing a hundred and it just gets worse when you have to put the mask on.

Not yet. I do support their cause for freedom but I believe we should help them by sending small forces (i.e. special forces, CIA) and guide them to the right direction. You know, pro-democracy, pro-human rights, and pro-America. And I think we already have CIA in Syria.

Would there be a strategic, economic, or political advantage for the U.S. in doing so?  Then yes.  If not, then no.

No an aerial campaign, and the logistical support of a group of our choosing should be sufficient.

Well I basically agree with this, but entering a conflict right now would definitely not grant us any sort of economic benefit.

No - learn from previous errors and stay out of affairs that don't concern you. Also, with 1/6 Americans on food stamps, another war just isn't justifiable.

So you say first the USA should fight its own problem such as fighting the inside terrorism and crime. Fight the Netas, Vatos Locos and the 3nitarios before jumping fight Al-Qaida, Al-Nusra, Taliban etc. Ok, it's fair enough.

lol you can spin it whatever way you want. Both the Syrian government and rebels can't be trusted - look at what's happening in Egypt right now - a government that the USA backed, again, has been overthrown. I'm also a staunch believer in national self determination and sovereignty. Plus, look at Iraq and Afghanistan - hardly shining examples of intervention. The USA wouldn't be in the mess it's in now if it had stayed out of the Middle East to begin with. Should never have got involved - the situations are far too complex for a foreign power to properly sort out.

Its an official analysis done by an internationally certified lab. The rebels knew that Obama said if Assad used chem. weapons he would intervene and arm them, they are the once who stand to gain a lot from it, hence their motives to fake the bombing. The report analyzed the chemicals as well as the shell itself and it stated that the gas didn't have any stabilizers and that the shell wasn't "mass produced" but was made in an "at home" style setting. Imagine if NATO invades a sovereign nation again under trumped up pretenses, they won't recover after this one.

at this point, no , its better not to get dragged into the quicksand.

at best you can try tosupport the more moderate rebels as carefully as possible, to offset the Russian aid to Assad, and the Gulf money that ends up in the hands of jihadists.

altough given Syria might just break up into ethnoreligious states anyway, so it might be stupid to send any sort of military aid, as secularists will get pushed aside.

why should NATO states engage this conflict? what is the interest? and what exactly would they be doing, fighting for assad or al-qaeda? or both? let allah sort them out.

I have no idea what the right thing to do is.  I dont like seeing any government killing off their people, but foreign military forces arent necessarily the answer.  The rebels certainly are not without fault.  Plus, do we really want the US sending its military to another middle eastern country?
