"Modernize" religion? I'm not sure I understand.

The religious authority are actively modernizing religion, generally by ignoring certain parts of their scripture, cherry-picking and what not. In addition, others, such as the Catholic church, reverse their stance on issues (such as on astronomy).
To see modernization, just look at Christians in general. Modern Christians are nothing like the Christians during the time when Charlemagne was showing Jesus-like love and compassion to the pagans. Hell, modern Christians have very little in common with the original cult (aka: original followers of that Jesus dude).
I think people in OT worry way too much about what other people believe and why.LJS9502_basicI couldn't agree more.
Religion makes perfect senses no matter how you look at it. It stands the test of time. It is logical, supported by scientific evidence and nothing bad has ever come from it. BenedictArnold7+1
Religion only appears to be outdated to the narrowminded and ignorant imo. What all religions really are are just cultural interpretations of one universal God. They share similar core values, but the way their worship God varies due to different cultural influences.
People who see religion as nothing more than a bunch of fanatics paying homage to a make believe diety are even more ignorant than the hardcore extremists who believe their religion is the only correct one and everyone else is going to hell.

People vote, raise children and share society together. Their beliefs affect politics, economics, science research, education and communities. Damn right I care.

No judging allowed.I think the general tendency is of two different social phenomenons that are currently in motion on modern societies.
One pushes the practice of a faith or worship as an subject of individual privacy and out of the space of someones community. The other one in radical contradiction with the latter tendency is the elimination of peoples privacy in a increasigly more powerful culture of sharing one's self information and habits with the general public.
As you can see those two movements put together, eliminate to some degree from modern societies the social spaces on wich someone can practice any cult or faith. Therefore it gives rises to such ideologies as sometimes it is heard for example in northern Europe people saying 'that Christianism is immoral'.

Good luck getting people to change the way they think. I've tried everyone from religious zealots to commie atheists and got no where. They have a right exist, and as long as they're legal citizens of the US, they have the right to vote....more ignorant than the hardcore extremistswho believe ... everyone else is going to hell.

Religion has been around since almost the dawn of civilization. Sure the main religions we have today had their start in the last 2000-3000 years, but there was religion before Christ and Muhammad. To modernize religion is like to modernize animal husbandry or agriculture; it cant be done because it is not specific to a time as it is to the human race. In a thousand years there will still be animal husbandry and agriculture as well as religion. Its ideas may change, the way we go about it may change, but as long as there are humans, there will be religion. Its not something that goes out of style, becomes obsolete, or fades away like a fad.thats why you cant modernize it.

Don't kill, love thy neightbor as you love thyself, don't lie, work hard, have faith.... Those are morals. Them from an uncanny and for all purposes fake stories (just like fables), is irrelevant. It brings through metaphors or tradition or _____________(place your favorite phrase) to a LARGE group of people moral bases and faith. I am atheist, but only a fool would deny this. You agreeing with these morals is different. But religion DOES bring morality and the way it does it, is timeless.Religion was created to explain the mysteries of the universe and assuage the fear of death. Since the concept of religion was first formed, science has made great strides in solving these mysteries but the fear of one's own mortality still remains. I believe as long as that fear exists so will religion.
[QUOTE="ScorpionTroll"]And how does one make a belief new? modernize it to reflect it's environment and cultural relevance. you mean change the dogma. yeah...no..that wouldnt end well, I dont if you are atheist (I think you are) but believers certainly have a problem with someone changing stuff.[QUOTE="LiquidAjax"] make it newLiquidAjax

Beliefs can and have been changed to reflect modern views. The Christian Bible states the Earth is flat and people should be killed if they commit adultery, but you'll find the majority of Christians no longer believe such things.
