I think not.
Drugs, yes. Marijuana, no. People that have a skewed view on marijuana are imbeciles. Then again, I'm sure people will say people that use marijuana are imbeciles.metallica_fan42
marijuana alters your perception. marijuana is indeed a drug. sorry to break it to you.

yes alcohol is a drug and a recent study in england saw a group of doctors rank it much higher than canabis and lsd on a list of the 20 worst drugs.

Uh, the vein of this thread is the opinion on druggies; NOT whether or not drugs should be legal (they shouldn't, and as long as this country has people with functioning brains, it won't).

I never said it wasn't. I guess since I live in BC, I really don't consider it a drug. It's funny, I've enjoyed marijuana for years, without moving on to other harder drugs. I can keep up my end of a conversation, I've never missed a day of work, and it's never affected me mentally(at least that I can see. I'm sure there are affects like lungs ect...) I think people choose to hate on it because they think it will mess you up for life, or it will be a gateway drug. Personally, I don't believe in that, but many people do. If people hate me for using marijuana, than so be it.[QUOTE="Frattracide"][QUOTE="Dracargen"][QUOTE="Frattracide"][QUOTE="Boogie_J"][QUOTE="metallica_fan42"]Drugs, yes. Marijuana, no. What I meant was, the thread seemed to imply "do you think people who use illegal drugs are losers?"
I don't think there is anyone on this thread would call a caffeine user a loser.

My dad likes to have a couple beers after we do work around the house. My mentor at my church likes to have a glass of wine with dinner and a glass of wine before bed. Dave Matthews just said he's drunk in a song I'm listening to. You can bet your ass it effects their perceptions. Do you value these people 'less than dirt'?
I do.

Exactly but would not call them that harsh of a word and it really depends on the type of drug and amount.
No, it think people who think people who do drugs are losers are losers...
...wow, that sentence was a lot easier to understand when I said it to myself than when I typed it...

See, this is what happens when you do drugs. Tsk tsk. Lol.

What you're describing is a drug addict, not a drug user. I smoke and drink, but have never needed them in order to feel comfortable.

Your dad: Unless he frequently gets drunk, then no. Your mentor is doing a very healthy thing that more people should do. As for Dave Matthews, it depends on how frequently he gets drunk.
The bottom line is that you really have to know the reasons why people take drugs, the first reason, is, yes, the altering of the state of mind, but the people I know who do marijuana don't just sit and enjoy there altered state of mind, they do the same things that they do when the aren't doing drugs, play video games, play or listen to music, watch movies, etc., but when there in that altered state of mind, the music or game or movie is a totally different experience, and you can't call someone a loser for just wanting to experience something new. Secondly is for artistic reasons, I have a friend who gets high just so he can write, because the altered state of mind gives him a unique view and vision of the world to be expressed artistically, furthermore drugs can strip away all of our inhibitions that would normally hinder our creativity, allowing us to right down thing we would normally be afraid to even think, hence the saying, "write drunk, revise sober." Harder drugs, even, have also inspired many great musicians, Dave Mustaine of Megadeth, for example, did more on alcohol and cocaine to alter the history of music than anyone posting in here could ever hope to do, by helping to define the guitar playing style used in thrash metal that is still being imitated today, and I don't even need to mention the influence of LSD on Jimi Hendrix or The Beatles. While I would say that doing cocaine or LSD is a stupid thing to do, I wouldn't call someone a loser just for using them.
Do i hate my stoner step brothers who dont have a job, quite school and desrespect my mom, stepdad.....yes
Do i hate myself for using drugs on occasion, have a steady job, work out regulary and respect my parents... no
Some drug uers can be losers, others that use occasionaly can be just like any other sober person.
People who are addicted to drugs and dont try to get off them i would call losers.

I have a situation very similar to yours. . . .

Now, to segue into my point: whats the difference if I substitute "joint" for beer/wine, and "high" for drunk?
