I use the opportunity to score some free shlt if I want, aside from that, I don't make a big deal out of it. My 18th birthday is on friday, so I'm having a bunch of people over the day after, but it's nothing spectacular.
Free stuff, cake, booze, a date that people know already and as such can't make an excuse like they weren't warned far enough ahead of time, what's not to like? The whole getting older thing is what bothers me, not the number. Not even so much the getting older it's self but the expecting to act your age thing.
I don't care. It's nice that people give me stuff, but I try to avoid certain aspects. Such as hiding my birthday on Facebook so I don't take part in the annual ritual of seeing how many people I don't really talk to pretend to care about the day I was born. I go out and celebrate it with friends and my girlfriend though. It's a reason to have fun, regardless of how silly of a reason it is.

No. But that is because I've got friends who've fell on very hard times and they do without to get me something. Of course its usually the ones worse off that are the most stubborn about not getting you anything.
No, when I hit 17 or 18 I started hating it. People singing and having to act grateful for random stuff, and my aunts always getting me "cute" girl stuff they think I need, I'm like no get me a plasma rifle replica if you're going to waste money.

Spot on. That's how I feel too.
I'll be 20 in two months, but I don't even act like a 19 year old, I'm quite childlike in some aspects of my personality.
I do love celebrating birthdays though. Whether it's going out for a meal or ordering takeaway at home watching some telly with the family, they're still great birthdays.
Not since I turned 20. Since high school I've always felt rather cynical and sarcastic. My 23rd birthday is tomorrow and I got enough problems to worry about (looking for a full-time job now nearly a year, student loan not getting deferred despite my request being put in 2 months ago, relationship problems) than to go "hooray, it's my birthday!".

heh, I think the last birthday party I had was when I was 9 , a combination of me getting too old, and birthdays becoming morre boring put a stop to that.

Devil Baby. Thread topic: I don't. My mother might get me something, but when others try to buy me things I tell them to simply pay my water bill($27) I'll be thankful for 30 days, or pay my phone bill($45) same thing... No one ever does though : /
