I will be flying oerseas soon and most of the time I dont mind it. However in Economy class in American Airlines I usually get someone who leans back in their chair so I cant use my laptop. Oh well, I can always just read. Also I heard that taking claritin before a flight can help make with decompression so you ears dont hurt, has anyone tried this?

No, I really don't. I remember just 15 or so years ago when you could fly on planes that were not packed like sardines, got reasonable (if not necessarily good) complimentary meal service and weren't subjected to something approximating a body cavity search. Air travel today does not compare favorably.

I hadn't flown in 20 years or so. Then I went on a honeymoon with required me to fly a nonstop 8-hour flight from Boston to Rome. That was rough.

i like air travel, but sometimes the plane can take like 45mins to take off, and you have to sit and wait inside the plane, while its just sitting on the runway

The actual act of flying doesn't bother me, and I do appreciate how quick it is. However, I HATE dealing with security, the crowds of people, the tight seating, etc. It's all very tedious.

I hate air travel. Driving or train is much better if its anything less than 400 miles. The high speed Acela line from DC to Boston is awesome. I would love then entire East Coast to be connected by high speed rail, from Boston city center to Miami city center.

I like looking out of the window to see the clouds, cities, stars(on my couple of night flights). Besides that flying isn't that great. Your cramped in a small space, it's noisy from people and the plane itself, and there isn't much to do. I prefer it over travel by car though because it's faster, either way I'm cramped in a small space for too long. Air travel has gotten a lot worse as of late though. I remember the first time I flew. They gave us a complimentary meal with real knives and forks. You didn't have to take your shoes off or get cavity searched. And they didn't price gouge you for everything.

I hate it. You either pay a ton of money, or put up with a crowded, noisy, cramped, uncomforatble flight.

As a passenger, I don't mind it. Gets boring, though. As a pilot, it's much more fun... although they type of aircraft I have access to really can't fly much faster than 130 knots, meaning very little traveling gets done.

I tried Claritin on my last trip and it worked for me. Without it, my ears hurt so much it feels like someone is slowly driving an ice pic through my head. Chewing gum, yawning, and other techniques never worked for me.

If I can see out the window, it's pretty darn fun. If I can't see much out the window, takeoffs and landings are still fun, but the rest is kind of boring. I usually don't get bothered by the other passengers, except for a flight I took in August from Charlotte to Raleigh. It was 90F in the plane, the flight was so short that the plane never cooled down, and I was stuck between two guys who were bigger than me.

There are things about it that suck...but it sure beats any other form of travel if you got a long distance to go.

Holy God yes, travel by bus is like crawling through the descending colon of the human collective. Train travel actually isn't too bad; when I was a teenager, I went solo to New York and spent most of the trip in the diner car talking to random people, and it was a mostly harmless way to travel.

Once you're on the plane I don't mind at all. But getting to the plane is a total pain; I last flew in 2006 and we had to be there 2 hours before the flight; over an hour of which was spent standing in the queue for security... and of course no liquids could be taken through, and luggage was limited to passports, medication and pretty much nothing else. The flight itself was from London to Barcelona, Spain and only took around 2 hours.

I actually find the process of flying fun when your with a group of friends. The process of going through security, flying, landing, is pretty fun when around with people you actually like to talk to. But I remember back in the days hot lasagna meals

Ever_Grande

Last year I went to Dallas and on the way home the plane went through this thunderstorm. Some lady a couple rows up asked the stewardess, "is the plane OK?" The stewardess said, "as long as we're up and walking around there's nothing to worry about. Close your eyes and pretend you're on a roller coaster. I'll bring you a drink in a few minutes."

I've always been on planes that are completely full. My sister has had the luxory of flying on planes that were underbooked so she got an entire row of seats to herself. I've always had to cramp into an economy seat for the whole trip. FYI some airlines have exit row seats that offer more leg room. You can specify when you buy your ticket that you want to sit there. Some places will charge you extra to sit there but most won't. I've always tried to request the exit row every time I fly.

Anything 4 hours or under is usually nice. Depends a lot on the airline (Lufthansa is awesome, Southwest not so much) For the ear thing, I just put in earplugs before takeoff and landing. Never tried claritin.

I have a mixed relationship with air travel. I find it rather intriguing, but at the same time I am scared to death of airplanes.

I think air travel is my favorite form of transportation for long distances. Plus, I've met some very cool people on airplanes.
