A lot of people eat pizza and throw away the crust. I love crust, especially Pizza Hut's stuffed crust. What about you, OT?

Those people deserve to spend some time in the English boarding school I basically lived in for 3 years. They had a rule that you can't leave the dining room until you finish your plate.

Utter waste of food. Of course I eat the crust.

Usually yes. But if it's a thick crust, then I leave them out sometimes.

Of course I eat the crust.

I view crust avoiders as cowards. Like...they're lesser people.

There are exceptions, though; if the pizza dough is undercooked or especially thick, or the crust is flavorless and the cheese doesn't go almost all the way up.

But no...you eat the crust, folks. You eat the crust.

You can blot the grease off your slice like some pretentious tool. You can eat with a knife and fork as god did not intend us to eat pizza. You can drink a whole bottle of ranch with it if you like. You can order pineapple on it. You can do all manner of unholy things to pizza. But you must eat the crust.

Sure, I guess, I might avoid some of it if the crust is too much and don't wanna fill up on it alone. Some pizzas I don't care for the hard dry edges that just take like carbon ass from being overcooked.

I would like to try some cheesy crust though, never had it before:

Even though it's nowhere near as tasty as the rest of the pizza, I don't want it go to waste so I always eat the crust.

Crust is on the end of the pizza. Rest of it has the sauce and toppings.

For sure. If the crust is not good, the pizza is no good. The crust helps make the foundation.

Dipping the crust in marinara sauce is the best way to eat it.

I love pizzas. All parts of it.

As long as you don't add anything sweet to it, there aren't any parts of the pizza I won't eat.

They vary, but I would argue that as a standard answer, no, they are not. In my opinion a good pizza has about 1" of crust. This varies of course, things like Detroit pizzas have literally no crust because the cheese goes over and down the sides into the pan, while a Naples-style pizza might have 2-3" of crust (but the dough is so gooooood!)

Pizzas vary by region in the US, too. We have our chains of course, but there's so many types. There's:

  • Chicago deep dish: hard to call a pizza, it's more like a casserole or lasagna. But it's still pizza! I'm not saying it isn't!
  • Chicago tavern style: thin, crackery crust that snaps and crunches
  • New York style: big, floppy slices
  • Detroit style: thick dough base baked in old oil pans, the cheese is put all the way to the edge so it melts down into the edges and caramelizes. The sauce goes on after. Really good. Like a nice fluffy fococcia pizza.
  • California style: regular pizza, but sort of pioneered adding crazy toppings. I've had a bahn mi pizza which was really good, a SF seafood pizza (clams, crab, shrimp), pear and blue cheese and proscuitto, etc.
  • Italian Naples-style: seems like a lot of folks are trying to master this style with their wood fired ovens. They're big on their ovens, nice flavored sauce, simple and wholesome ingredients, and traditional execution.

And that's just skimming the surface! I got Swedish restaurant near me that does a curry and banana pizza. It's actually really good!

I'm surprised they don't. I forgot where you live, but fast food outside the US always seems so much overkill compared to what we get here. Like, I know US culture is very much about fast food but the food itself is kind of ordinary; the stuff I see overseas is freaking crazy though. Figured other places would have stuffed crust by now, and taken to excess.

Do you make your own pizzas, ever? Stuffed crust isn't too hard to make, just need to make an extra large circle, put sticks of cheese along the outside, then fold over the crust. Then sauce and top like normal.

It helps to bake it slow at first to melt the cheese in the dough then really hot for the last few minutes.

He lives in Norway.

I do eat the crust of the pizzas. Nowadays, few pizza places do offer fillings inside the crust such as cheese tends to be really good.

Yes, usually. If I start to get full with a lot of pizza left, I could leave some crust so I can at least finish the best stuff. One regular sized pizza is quite a lot of food for me..

@shellcase86: It sure does.

Crust goes awesome dipping in marinara sauce, especially if it’s stuffed crust. Goes great with cheese sauce, too.

@mrbojangles25: Scandinavians are nice people. But I wouldn't allow any of them near a kitchen in my watch.

I have seen even the most simple dishes ruined by their Scandinavian versions.

It's 50/50 for me.

I always eat the crust if I have something to dip it into, like ranch dressing or marinara sauce.

Otherwise, it's just bread to me so I'm likely to toss it. Unless I am starving.
