Wow, based on the first two pages I gotta say I am shocked by the fact people are saying "Its OK/ I dont care" thats kind of a relief. Amazing how the responses have changed months after Prop 8 in California.

With that said, I support gay marriage. I am still ashamed of my state for voting Yes on Prop 8, I really cannot believe it passed and outlawed it.

It's inevitable that gay marriage will be legal. Once the older generation dies, I believe there are more young people that will grow up in support of gay marriage. Whether it's 1 year from now or 10 years, it will be legal everywhere.

I agree, the "old guard" that reigned during the Cold War is soon to die (thankfully), so all those fears will soon be put to rest. We can finally adapt the American Dream to modern timesor get rid of it all together.

Just the recognized couple aspect of it is ok yes. Marriage, at least in the US, is more of a business deal though to encourage the growth of young Americans and promote the ideal of the "traditional home" by providing tax credits for being married. I don't think there should be a monetary incentive for people to get married, but as long as there is, I'm not in favor of giving it to couples who won't get pregnant anyways. If they do away with the marriage perks, then I'm all for everyone getting married.

fine with same sex marriage, my sister is gay but if a gay guy ever comes up to me i'm throwing him into the nearest wall. like no joke. i've been around a gay guy once before and it was so horribly uncomfortable a slammed my face into a door then went to the nurse (this was in college) just to have an excuse to leave him.

I can't really call it marriage, though, because the design was meant for a man and a woman. You have partnerships, or whatever, but the term "marriage" should only really apply to a man/woman thing.JustPlainLucas
If the word "marriage" absolutely HAS to be religiously exclusive, then strip all the benefits from it, repeal DOMA, and give civil unions ALL of the benefits marriage currently gives, in all aspects. I don't understand why people who believe marriage should be only between a man and a woman aren't petitioning or pushing propositions to get this issue resolved. The situation would work wonders if religion was separated from state, especially considering the idea that treating government handed-out marriages as religious would technically be idolatry. *shrug*

How about you pass a proposition to remove marriage from the legal system, and make is exclusive to religious practice? Why not be proactive about it instead of making obstacles?

Not only do I think it's ok, but I feel that it's a basic civil right they should have already and that its legalization is a inevitability.

It's not my business, so gay marriage is fine in my book. If you are opposed to it that is fine but personal beliefs absolutely have no place in the law, only logic and reason.

The slippery slope fallacy used yet again. It's always lies, fallacies, and extremely subjective morals that are used against gay marriage.

I see no problem with it, whats disturbing is that people make a big deal out of it.

peter1191

Agreed...it's only when a bunch of fearmongering nuts got a bunch of people to believe that homosexuals would destroy them did it matter. And to be honest i cant understand the logic it just makes me angry.

Just one last post before I'm off to sleep. I want to see what you guys have to say. Here is my question: where does it end? First homosexuals today, then polygamists tommore (look at canadian politics for an example). Then father-daughter or mother-son relations (when they are old enough to consent). THen the age for said consent will be dropped. Then bestiality. Where does it end? Where do you draw the line on proper human interactions? I say at a man and woman. You say that man-man and woman-woman are "equal." Thats a very flimsy word. "equal" It can be used over and over again, and it will mean something new each and every time. I do not fearmongol, I try to see why such an idea as homosexuality has become accepted in our culture. I will probably be a minority oppositing this trend soon. But you know what, integrity. Thats what I aim for. As everyone else goes with the flow, and accepts things in society as they come, I step outside of it and see the trends. When African-Americans gained their equality back in the 1960s, or Women in the 1920s then 1970s, it was not based of "love" or emotion. It was based of REAL EQUALITY. There is no reason a black man should be inferior to a white one, intellectually or not. Likewise a woman maybe weaker than a man, but in a society where intellect is the new ammunition, she is an equal. Homosexuals are humans too. THey have all the rights we do. They just ask for more. They ask us to change our definition of marrige for them. And who knows? Once a ingrained tradition of the human race is altered, where does it end? There is no "REAL EQUALITY" in the union of homosexuals, only there is equality in the homosexuals themselves. Consider this arguement. It will not convince you, but at least I made my point.

Oh wow such wealth of information....
and slippery slope fallacies :o
I'm not quite decided yet. This has been an issue I've been thinking about for awhile now. I believe that anything less than civil unions is a civil rights violation, but I still go back and forth on the issue of gay marriage.

That's because a lot of Mormons from Nevada came over and pledged heavy financial support for Prop. 8. If they didn't Prop. 8 would not have passed.
