I believe that there is life out there somewhere, but I dont believe in any of those stories because usually the people have seen TV shows, movies, documentaries and that stuff, so their just sort of paranoid.

Statistically speaking, I'd be a fool not to.

Agreed. Given the size of the universe, it would be impossible for us to be the only example of intelligent life out there.[QUOTE="my_mortal_coil"][QUOTE="brasscaribou"]

Agreed. Given the size of the universe, it would be impossible for us to be the only example of intelligent life out there.Same here. I'm pretty much sure there's life out there somewhere.
What I don't believe is that these beings have visited our planet, own flying saucers, or have gone to the trouble of abducting some of us in order to study us. I believe we'll never see or make contact with other intelligent life forms, even if they do exist.
Do i believe that in this universe other life exists, of course it would be very short sighted to believe that were the only planet the correct distance from a sun to sustain life.
Do i believe they have ever been here in there flying saucers aimlessly hovering around NO
Why do we care if there is or isn't. If they are more intelligent why would they pay attention to us. You see if you can make a rocket ship that travels incredibly fast why would you travel to a place where the "elders" don't know how to work an ipod.
it would be dissapointing to know that we are the most intelligent life forms in the universe, so im a believer
I think it would be for entertainment, you know, observing humanity. We're like System Wars. It's funny, but you facepalm everytime. Why do we care if there is or isn't. If they are more intelligent why would they pay attention to us. There could be a number reasons why they haven't contacted us, we could be in a remote part where isn't any other intelligent life near us or they just don't want to contact us purely because we're a hostile race that would most likely attack them for the technology.Meh, If there were Aliens Wouldn't they have tried Contacting us by now instead of Anal Probing and Stealing Cows? I only agree that aliens Exist in the Form of Possible Space moss.

There has got to be something out there. I mean where only hear because our rock is just the perfect distance from a star. There are billions of stars, there has got to be a least a couple that are about that same distance.
I really don't beleive that there super intelligent or anything, maybe or maybe not, but there has got to be something out there
Maybe it didn't just happen, maybe it was planned.... here we go again.Yes. I'd bet my life on it. If it can happen here, why not somewhere else?
Rekunta
I certainly think there could be, but we haven't seen them yet. Also, I don't think it's possible to say with absolute certainty that there are just because of how big the universe is. We could just as easily be the 1 in ?large number? of planets that is perfect for spawning life.
Yes. The universe is so vast that it's unlikely that were are the only life in the galaxy. I'd wager that there is intelligent life not that dissimilar from us out there as well. However, I doubt we will ever run into any intelligent life forms due to the same reason they are likely to exist, the universe is just too big.
See, that's not true. I'm not pointing you out specifically because a lot of people think this, but with only one example of life, there is currently only a 1/total number of planets chance of there being life. If any "scientist" says otherwise, they are probably looking for funding. Now there probably are planets similar to Earth, capable of sustaining life as we know it, but that doesn't mean they do have life. There is an extremely high chance of there being life somewhere else in the universe besides Earth. It is almost impossible that there is not life out there because of the size of the universe.

It's arrogant to assume we're intelligent.Who voted no? It's arrogant to assume we're the only intelligent life in the universe.
MushroomWig
Or would it be arrogant to assume that life exists elsewhere? Do you know what the probability of life forming is?Who voted no? It's arrogant to assume we're the only intelligent life in the universe.

 people voted no Like someone else said, I'd bet my life on it. Brainkiller05
Well to be perfectly honest I think the poll is poorly worded.. It should have said something like "Given the size of the Earth, do you think its safe to say that its probable that other life exists out there?"..

If we are going to use flat out probability in this matter, its flat out garenteed.. Our Galaxy has some 100 billion stars in it.. Many of those stars havea handful to dozens and dozens of planets and moons around it.. The hubble telescopt in 1999 estimated some 125 billion galaxies in the universe.. And ourgalaxy is quite small, the Andromeda galaxy which is on a collosion course to our galaxy is at least 3 times larger then the Milky Way.
Given the sheer number of stars and planets out there, I think it's foolish and illogical NOT to believe in them. I do, however also believe that there may be some "aliens" on our planet right now, and have been for a very long time. I don't know that they're not actually from Earth.
[QUOTE="MushroomWig"]Or would it be arrogant to assume that life exists elsewhere? Do you know what the probability of life forming is? does anyone really know that probability. remember that just a few decades ago we thought there could be no life at extreme locations on earth and yet this was wrong. who knows what other types of life might exist outside of earth.Who voted no? It's arrogant to assume we're the only intelligent life in the universe.

[QUOTE="MushroomWig"]Or would it be arrogant to assume that life exists elsewhere? Do you know what the probability of life forming is? RIght, because mankind is so special that it's impossible that the same thing couldn't possibly happen elsewhere. -__-Who voted no? It's arrogant to assume we're the only intelligent life in the universe.
