Or is it just a big internet joke?I've been listening to most their songs on Youtube and their actually decent :)

I dislike Nickelback, but it feels like a lot of people just jump on the "Nickelback is the worst band ever!!!" bandwagon because everybody else on the internet says the same thing. They're just generic rock music designed to get play on the radio. There are tons of other bands who are just as bland as Nickelback who don't get nearly as much hate.
People really hate them. A lot of their songs sound the same. Canuck3000I don't get this logic. Unless a band or an artist is in some sort of progressive or fusion genre, they're going to sound the same. Its like hating Slayer for always sounding like THRASH METAL.
Like Foo Fighters. If Dave Grohl wasn't in Nirvana, I feel like Foo Fighters would get the same hate.I dislike Nickelback, but it feels like a lot of people just jump on the "Nickelback is the worst band ever!!!" bandwagon because everybody else on the internet says the same thing. I doubt they're going to change their formula. Its exactly like Coldplay. These bands aren't exactly horrible, they just cater to the masses. They have their place.
never made it as a wise man........ their only good songThey're kind of a guilty pleasure for me mostly for nostalgic reasons.

Chad Kroeger is aboslutely terrible. His writing and vocals are awful, he can only write about getting drunk and having sex, and wanting to be a rockstar.
F*cking awful.
Seriously, how many songs can you write about getting drunk and getting blown? No wonder he hooked up with Avril, another vapid human being.
Considering the quality of his music, and themes, I'm not surprised they're successful .

Why would I hate them? They didn't do anything to me for them to deserve hate.
Necrifer
idk
Why did people hate Bieber (or w/e his name was)?
Beats me. I don't hate Justin Bieber either. I mean I had to put with his Christmas Carol CD because my wife n kids like his music. But, that's not any reason to hate the guy.
Honestly, I can't even think of any of their songs.

I actually like their cover of Elton John's Saturday.....

Conversely pop bands appeal because that is what people are given. Easy hooks and image. Do you think if people were presented with different music Nickelback would be popular? In other words...if the label didn't think they could market these guys and make a lot of money.....would they be as well known? Its both. Pop bands are an easy simple listen, and pop bands are an easy listen because they appeal to a lot. I like bands like Dream Theatre, Radiohead, Muse, and you like the Cure. They all have quite a big fan base as it is, but I doubt that if they had as much exposure as Bieber their popularity would soar. Their music is an acquired taste.
I'm surprised at how sudden the hate was. In one year, they went from another generic rock band to scum of the earth. But ultimately, it's the bandwagon effect.
Hate is a strong word. And if you actually hateNickelback, then you've got some problems.
And if you don't actually hateNickelback, but you say you hate them anyway, then thank you for devaluing the word "hate" and for not caring about the meaning of the words that you use...
No, I actually hate them. I usually don't like to talk about how much I hate them, since hating on them has become such a fad. But yeah, they really suck.Or is it just a big internet joke?I've been listening to most their songs on Youtube and their actually decent :)

Please, can we not put Coldplay and Nickelback in the same group? Coldplay outmatches Nickelback's pop songs by a thousand times.
Yes, plenty of us hate Nickleback.
Sure has hating the band become a bit of a fad thing? Yes, but that still doesn't stop their music from being awful and the band just being a prime example of what is wrong with popular music.
They are pretty much talentless, likely don't even write their own songs, and their songs are still just empty and souless.
Thing is, even in the realm of popular music they are still in the shallow end of that very shallow pool...
So yeah, people hate the band and for good reason.

Sorry but I always see Coldplay as a really unimaginative Radiohead rip off.Conversely pop bands appeal because that is what people are given. Easy hooks and image. Acquired taste. Hell if Nickelback and their generic music wasn't pushed on people then I suppose you'd say they are an acquired taste.[QUOTE="LJS9502_basic"][QUOTE="lonewolf604"] People like Nickleback, and they're a pop band.
