I haven't seen an animated movie in the last couple of decades that is not a cliche ridden movie of some sort. The protagonists are mostly the same, being a character with many desires to do more. His peers never seem to agree with him and never like him very much. How to Train Your Dragon, A bug's Life, Ratatouille, and Brave as well as meet the Robinson are all guilty of this. And let's not forget to mention that the love stories that are slapped onto these kinds of films all of the time.
Why islolate Animated Movies ?
Is there a specific reason why they might be prone to sucking any more than live action movies ?
I just think that animated movies tend be less original than live action movies. They usually take more risks with live action movies whereas animated movies are marketed towards children more often than not because of the cost of production to make them. Due to this they take less risks and for some reason have unoriginal plots like crazy.
@sundayismyDAD
So taking risks = Better Movies ?
Thats just wrong..... And I wouldn't say they are marketed towards children they are marketed towards people who aren't in the mood for another 90 minutes of violence and boobs..... Theres many Animated Movies kids just shouldn't watch and theres many Live Action films that are very family friendly.
Animation is not a precursor to anything..... Its just a style and it can and is used for playing it safe and taking risks.....
I think the animated movies of today aren't as great as the ones from the 80's, yes. Do they suck? That's purely subjective. Without having seen every animated movie that was made in recent years, I can't say that they do or don't. I just choose not to see them because they're not my cup o' tea. Doesn't mean they're terrible though. That's just what I prefer.
I like some animated movies.
I dislike others.
I agree that they are more cliche ridden but thats because they are often aimed at a younger audience so the "moral" is less contrived and far more obvious to satisfy a younger audience.
I would rather watch an animated movie than the usual dumbed down action fest, I've gotten more enjoyment from animated movies like Bolt, Wreck It Ralph, Frozen, the Pixar's, Paranorman, Coraline and many others than I have from the mindless action fest boredom of rubbish like the Abrams Star Wars For Dummies Star 'trek' Wars nonsense, the Michael Bay Transformers movies and other action movies.
Currently have the Robocop reboot movie waiting to be watched, not expecting much from it, would frankly prefer to see the Lego Movie which isn't out on DVD until next month.
Some of them are really fantastic like Pixar and Studio Ghibli but the majority are painfully generic and they lose my interest.
Your opinion =/= fact. There are those who enjoy animated movies. And they continue to be created so they must generate revenue.
Lol like animated movies are only thing that use cliches. I mean they can't all be so original like the big blockbusters action movies that never use cliches
I think Pixar just flat out sucks, except perhaps for Toy Story. Every one of those stupid films has really embarrassing sappy sentimental parts that made me cringe even as a child. They tend to be really pretentious too.
