this, IMO, will be the death of cinema. i hope we never come to the age where actors become "obselete." CGI movies are not real movies. don't get me wrong, i have nothing against movies like Wall-E, Toy Story, etc... it's movies like The Avatar or Beowulf that try to be hyper realistic. it makes the movie feel very flat and devoid of emotion. you can't appreciate an actor's or actresses' talent besides their voice overs.

That and special effects, I think people should use CGI sparingly and just try to make their special effects without it, in my honest opinion, A New Hope's effects look better than Episode III's effects, why? Because they look more human, more believable, and aren't easily spotted out as CGI.

I agree CGI is being overused, but it will never entirely take over the Filmmaking.

Beowulf might have been better in live action, but Avatar looks like it is better suited for CGI. I don't think it is taking over(besides in special effects), but just opening another avenue for creative expression. CGI may even become like the western equivalent of anime.

No, it won't be. Think of all those, you know, "type" of movies that won't have CG "actors" in them.

Cinema survived The Great Depression. I doubt CGI would kill it. But besides, it's not like every film that's released these days is plagued with bad CGI. There's still lots of good film out there. Some of them use CGI right, some don't. I don't look at films like Transformers and think how movies are going to hell, because I know there are plenty other films out there that give a good example of what good film is.

No they're not. CGI will never truly replace regular films. Sure we've seen a rise in popularity, but its just the newest trend in Hollywood right now.

District 9's CG was pretty much perfect IMO. More CG should try to aspire to be as well integrated as D9's.

Just ask yourself this, would you rather watch a CGI-actor or a real actor?

I would rather see human "actors" than cartoon "actors." Seriously.

No, special effects will be the lifeblood of the industry. Special effects make it more difficult to pirate movies.

Well aside from a studio that has a good reputation like Pixar, they're a good sign of garbage.

The problem I have with CGI is the application. It seems to me that when movie makers know something is possible in CGI, it should be done, no question. There's no thought taken as to whether it's actually plausible or not in real life. There has to be an element of believability. That to me makes a movie, I have to believe that it's within the possibility of being realistic, and many movies today that utilize CGI push it.
