I hardly ever get them, but they are so very annoying.

I had a random urge to look them up on the computer on many sites to see why and such.

My question is, "Are they contagious?"

Because, on so many different sites they say they are annoying etc, but not contagious.

My mom says otherwise and refuses to believe they are not.

Supposively our doctor told her they are.

But by experience, I'm asking everyone here.

And easy ways to get them to go away.

and whatever comes to mind, I had more earlier, but I forgot what I was going to say.

Herpes is different, its not cold sores.

It is a canker sore.

"Caused by stress, poor nutrition, food allergies and menstrual periods."

Cold sores are Herpes

"Canker sores are shallow, painful sores in the mouth. They are usually red or may sometimes have a white coating over them. You might get them on the inside of your lips, the insides of your cheeks, the base of your gums or under your tongue. Canker sores are different from fever blisters, which usually are on the outside of your lips or the corners of your mouth."

No, I'm 18.

I've known people all my life.

I've got them as a kid.

They are just random little sores.

Herpes is on the outside of the mouth.

I always figured you got them if you didn't brush your teeth enough. Sugar. leftover food, and whatever else kind of just sits inside your mouth and irritates it.

yea.. canker sores are those open sores inside of your mouth that hurt like a *****.

Cold sores are different. Cold sores are caused by different kinds of herpes virus'. Did y'all know that chicken pox and roseola is a herpes virus? You can have cold sores from a herpes virus without having "herpes" as you know it.

And a canker sore is different from the herpes virus that causes cold sores around the lips. Canker sores are caused from stress, etc. It's not a virus.

They might be contageous. If they're in your mouth, why is your mom so worried about them being contagious?

Ya those are some reasons.

But I keep my mouth really clean.

But I usually get them when I get stressed all week.

Thats what I think it is.

I've been a little stressed out with stuff the past week. but eh, happens.

Ya, I'm not too sure.

I was just asking her. and shes always been o "Dont touch your mouth" haha

but ya, I might want to avoid getting too close to my girlfriend is one reason.

Another is they just hurt and are annoying. Just want to get rid of them as fast as they come.

long story short, pretty much herpes on your mouth. Dont kiss, or like share a sandwich with any one who has one. Its a virus or what ever that you have for the rest of your life once you get it. You can only get it though when the other person actually has one on his or her mouth. So say a person has a canker sore it will eventually go away (takes a couple of days) but different things can bring it back. Stress, stuff like that. wait, are we talking about cold sores or canker sores? ow well you guys confused the $h1t out of me.

makes sense. I was really stressed for a few weeks and I got 3 in a row. One went away and another came up, then that one went away and another one came. I think it's very stress related. Although it may have other causes also.

canker sore is not a virus. It's not herpes. A cold sore is. A canker sore is also known as an "ulcer" of the mouth.

No not contagious. I have them too and they are completely different. They come and go. Whoever is answering on the first page is so wrong. I dont want to get moderated but they are the essence of ignorance. Try using mouthwash if you dont. That helps me get them down within a day or too. It sucks when you eat and one gets in the way.

just use wikipedia

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aphthous_ulcer

it seems like there is a type of it that seems to have the word herpe, but not specifically does it explain if it's related to herpes. It also doesn't seem to be the most common type of Canker Sores.

Personally I get Canker Sores when I eat too many acidic foods, but there could be several causes.

Ya. So I've seen. But who knows, still not sure if I should bother kissing my girlfriend at all or anything else lol.

Ya, I've been using mouth wash, but it doesn't seem to have helped at all.

I remeber when I took a Wellness class for P.E. I never once got a canker sore, because every week we would do a rest and relaxation day and it would really help with stress, everyone always felt better right after.

So that may be why I never had one that entire year.
