I already knew that he was radical towards the muslim culture, but his interview with AC a few days ago was just bizarre. So bizarre that it makes Rush Limbaugh look like a novice in hatred. When he spoke on muslims and looping them with that crazy bomber in NY he said that it is plainly because we are "better". He also went on to say that muslims bring that "sand stuff" with them. Not joking. He also claimed that we (as Americans) were the "civilized" group. And if that wasnt ridiculous enough, he also said that the reason why the person in NY guy tried to bomb Times Square was because he was spoiled by american values and goods that he felt "guilty" about abandoning I guess what Bill would call an edict of the Muslim culture.

He kept on talking about americans and how we are better, but what was so eye opening was that he claimed that he doesnt know what is in the quran, but he somehow knows that the Bible somehow has less radical stuff than the quran does. And then for our american views he used the vatican to make a contrast from muslims. lol. First of all, how the heck is he going to claim what book is "less radical" without even reading one of them. And second, what does the Vatican have to do with american views.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6RnhufDPbuM

Anyway, this guy on hollywood blvd was passing out tickets to the Bill Maher show today and I picked up a few lol!!!!!! I wonder if I should go or not.

Not too shocking, for me. I've never liked Bill Maher, as he skirts with the anti-vax crowd and is a member of PETA.

He stated that our culture is better because of the equality of women. That, and the fact that we don't riot because of cartoons, were the main things that he was talking about when he made that point.

Where is the video link I think you might be leaving some stuff out just to make him seem real biased.

He is. A culture that values equality of the sexes, along with freedom of speech (i.e., not rioting and killing dozens because of a cartoon) is better than one that doesn't. And, he wasn't talking about Christian vs. Islam. He doesn't like any religion.

"We" is the Western world. A culture where women are equal to men is better than one where women are denied basic rights, such as not being able to drive or even leave the house without a male escort.

Oh my god he said something good about America? Yeah that's probably something his audience hates.

Personally I don't care for the shock-"jock" types like Limbaugh and Maher. I don't care for their Atheism, Christianity or hatred for Islam.

I think he's just using comon sense, it doesn't take a genius to figure out which religion is more radical, just look at the most recent attempt in Time's Square. Christians follow the new testament which has pretty much nothing radical in it...

I'm not the biggest Maher fan, and I really am skeptical about whether or not he believes all the things he says, but there is some truth to what he is getting at. Maybe this is just my horrible ethnocentrism acting up, but when you compare western and American values to the values advocated by these radical, Islamists who believe in global jihad, the former does appear much more civilized and much more humane.

He's very outspoken on many political things, and he doesn't get a pass on it because he's a "comedian." I generally don't know or care much about this incident. I just don't like him, for the reasons I already mentioned. I'll also say that he's proof positive that being an atheist doesn't mean you're smarter than everyone.

What you are doing is somehow linking terrorists with the quran when 1, you dont know anything about the quran, and 2, you dont understand that terrorism has more to do with human evil than any type of religion.

I agree with you. I didn't mean to use "radical" in such a bad way, most christians would cower down in fear and pray, as opposed to Jihad with Muslims. Christians just aren't as radical...

Your original post severely, severely misquotes Bill Maher. I'm not exactly a huge fan of his, but all of what he was saying was pretty tame. He was taking a dig at radical Muslims who threaten artists, comparing them favourably to Western religious institutions which threaten with litigation.

His criticisms are not racially motivated. When he talks about "us" and "them", the "us" is western society and the "them" is Islamic society like those found in the middle east, and to him, when you do compare the legal systems and the cultural values of these two societies, one society does emerge as being more humane and more civilized, and Maher is linking the apparent barbarism of these Middle Eastern societies to Islam, which is not necessarily an outlandish thing to do. What he's not saying is that Arab people are inherently uncivilized and barbaric, he's saying the ideology is.

[QUOTE="peaceoutmedusa"]To use racial crap like "brining that sand stuff" and "simply we're better" isnt being tolerant at all.Engrish_Major
You don't have to be tolerant of intolerant people.

Thats what the cartoon killers said.

I find that these radical islamist groups who speak out publicly are a good source of irony. If they did they exact same thing in their own country using radical Christianity, they would be shot dead in the streets. So, in an ironic twist, the country that lets them speak out against it is also allowing them to speak freely in the first place.
