http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2014/05/25/sc-pastor-accused-of-turning-bible-college-into-forced-labor-camp-for-foreign-students/

The president of Cathedral Bible College, in South Carolina, will be facing federal charges of forcing students on foreign visas into slave labor, he could face as much as 20 years in prison for each count. The Department of Homeland Security made the criminal complaint. He used control of foreign students' student visa status as leverage to force them to work over 50 hours a week without pay, fed them expired food, and kept them living in substandard housing with no hot water, or heat or air conditioning. Furthermore, the school had no meaningful curriculum offered to the students, who said the classes "were not real".

Apparently he's going to like prison, he has a history of having exposed himself to an undercover officer in a bath house. I'm sure he's gonna love dropping the soap in the prison showers.

The investigation into this has just begun, a full assessment of how many students were treated this way and to what degree is still under investigation. Right now the count is at 8 foreign students. But again, each instance can get him up to 20 years in prison.

I may be wrong, but I think he was being silly.

was that really necessary? the only way to investigate this guy was to go to a bath house with him? <_<

So basically, he recreated his own version of a "sweat shop". Nice.

Well would you rather they send in one guy to use his own eyes and ears to gather evidence or install surveillance equipment in the bathhouse to conduct their investigation?

If anything they were just playing it extra safe... Can you imagine the headlines if it was discovered that the Department of Homeland Security secretly installed cameras and microphones in a bathhouse?

EDIT: I realize now you were probably questioning the whole point of them going into the bathhouse to investigate rather than how it was done. On that note, yes it was necessary... The guy was under investigation for months for enslaving people... They probably had him under surveillance/surrounded by under-cover officers everywhere he went.

Seems like the bathhouse incident was unrelated. For one thing, that happened in 2006. So if he was under investigation for slavery, it sure took a long time to nail him. Secondly if the undercover officer was there in order to keep an eye on him for the slavery thing, then why pick him up on a minor incident like public lewdness? Wouldn't that just risk tipping him off that he was under surveillance, thereby potentially compromising their investigation into the really serious stuff?

Holy shit this is insane. Someone was reminiscing over the heydays of the Church.

Also, what were foreign students doing in a Christian school/college anyway?

He misrepresented the school to foreign students, there's lots of Christian schools that give a real solid education; this wasn't one of them.

well, it happens...

and for those thinking the sting and investigation into the college were linked, they weren't, just so happened the guy had a previous incident with the law
