If one does not have a car would new york be the best place?
I heard New York is a very hostile place to be and is expensive as well.
Which do you feel is the better place New York or LA?

LA is way too crowded as it is. Better to just start small-time at your current location and work your way up. Make contacts, network, sh*t like that. It's almost impossible to get hired as an Actor in a feature film because you need to be part of the Screen Actor's Guild. And to be a part of it you need to be in a feature film. It's a dumb situation but good luck young Skywalker.
the grave. really, really tough to make it.comp_atkins
I realize it is one of the most difficult professions to get a job in... I am not very talented but I guess I need the struggle and if I fail I fail and can join the Army or something and do something with my life.
I am sick of wasting space. I realize there are people alot prettier and more talented going for it. So I would totally understand me failing.

I do not have a car and my parents probably would not drive me, I have enough money saved up from my job to make a flight to New York and maybe from their I can get a part time job?

You could try that, but you gotta remember that New York is a really expensive place to live. I'd recommend living in New Jersey and just crossing over into Manhattan when you need to. Way cheaper that way and most people that work in Manhattan commute there aswell. You're going to need to give this 110% if you hope to achieve anything.[QUOTE="LazerTurtle"]

Would living in LA be better?
Are rental cars expensive because I would consider living in my car maybe remove the backseat.
Is it possible to live off minimum wage or will I need a second job as well?

there are trains, cars, buses, boats.. not too difficult to get into the city from jersey.Buses are way cheaper than using a taxi. Just get a bus pass each month and you'd be set. Most of these buses stop at Port Authority Station which is in the middle of Manhattan. Really good location. Are their taxis to drive you from Jersey to Manhatten?

LA would be the optimum place if you're already an established actor. The public transit system there is awful though. You would need a car there to survive and the highway traffic is notoriously crowded. You might be able to squeeze by with minimum wage if you only buy the absolute minimum but that's all up to you.

Cars are pretty expensive even to rent?
Would the cost of a car = more than that or a place to stay?
Also what is the cheapest place to stay a hotel?
First off get an agent......Mafiree
Well that costs too much money and don't you get an agent after building up your skills?
[QUOTE="LazerTurtle"]

Dracula68
Dude there is no such thing as a cheap hotel in Manhattan. Seriously.
Well he said I could take a bus to Manhatten? I was going to ask the guys at Neogaf but they still will not accept me to their forum. Did not mean to bother anyone with this topic.
[QUOTE="LazerTurtle"]If one does not have a car would new york be the best place?Dracula68What does that have to do with the price of tea in China? What does the price of tea in China have to do with the price of donuts in Nebraska?
Tc are you familiar with cast couching?Capitan_KidI don't see how wrapping a couch in a plaster cast would help, but I guess any suggestion is better than none.
Not having an agent makes a difficult area to land a job in more difficult.....
Do you at least have head-shots?
Mafiree
No I am not very good looking, I was thinking if I built up my acting it would not really matter.
Seriously, everything is $100 plus and the low end hotels are disgusting. Mafiree
Are we talking about daily?
How do people live in New York if Minimum wage is 7.15

That's what most people look for in actors these days--someone with acting talent who looks like a cross between the Elephant Man and Seabiscuit. So if u aren't very talented and aren't good looking and have NO idea what you're doing or how you're going to live , Dont you think you should stop while your ahead ??silentnightmere
True, I have never been the kind of guy for thinking though, its my dream so why not give it 100% before I go join the army or whatever. I know alot of actors are talented and very good looking but if I try hard I might get a role on something like a commercial.
We all have dreams.
The what I am going to do and live is what I am trying to work out right now.

Is your dream to be an actor or do you just want to be famous?
Ilovegames1992
Actor, I could not give a damn about fame or I would not be considering New York.
I would like to go where all the action is though so that I can learn the trade good.

I guess so. IMO i would just join the army. I mean its hard to become an actor if you DO look good and can actually act , let alone if u aren't either. Also u asked about Jersey. Its one of the most expensive states to live in. How do I know this ? i live here. That's what most people look for in actors these days--someone with acting talent who looks like a cross between the Elephant Man and Seabiscuit.[QUOTE="Hallenbeck77"][QUOTE="LazerTurtle"]
