This really annoys me. I have one, he's like my brother, I share everything with himand my other friends (who are girls) always question our friendship.

"Will you date him?"
"No."
"Ever?"
"No."
"Like ever, ever?"
*rage*

Now, this brings me to the question; do you have a best friend of the opposite sex?

If so, do you get those stupid questions like me?

So are you going to date him

Most of the friends I have had are of the opposite sex as guys typically annoy me. The question comes up but never bothered me and the answer was always no

Not so much anymore, but in high school I did. It really is hard to have a close friendship with someone of the opposite sex without at least one person developing some sort of feelings for the other. Whether it be emotional, sexual or both. I'm not saying it's impossible or anything, but I can understand why a lot of people would get that idea :P

Oh, this makes me think of When Harry Met Sally. I absolutely LOVE that movie!

Ya, things turned all emotional and sexual... didn't work out though. Neither of us liked what the relationship became, so we went back to being just friends. Emotions can be really tricky like that, as long as you know he doesn't have feelings for you... let the other people talk. They just want their bit of gossip for the day, don't mind them. =P

Yes. And they know I like one of his friends anyway so the on going questioning is rather pointless.

Having a best friend of the opposite sex would just get weird I think...in my opinion. Unless it's a very brother / sister-esque relationship.

They are ok, can give you a different feeling of friendship and relationships in general. I don't have many of them but I'm ok with most people.

There's a good reason for people asking you these questions. No matter how much you want to believe you think of a member of the opposite sex as just a friend, the male will ALWAYS at least consider you in the back of his mind as someone he'd want to date. Even if the guy won't ever actually ask the girl out, they at least think about occasionally.

He's right you know. Your friend may not admit it, he may be afraid to tell you because of the consequences, but unless he's asexual (in which case he'd still want a romantic relationship) he has thought of you as more than a friend.

I didn't make it very clear that it's a brother/sister like thing we have. Plus I like his friend and he likes someone else. It's strictly a "no feelings towards eachother" thing.

I'm sure it is, from a guy who's been in this scenario more times than he cares to admit. I'm not doubting your friendship, but I am saying unless he said directly to you without and nervousness or doubt 'I don't feel that way' there is chemical romance, at least on his part.

Edit: the sibling aspect doesn't help with it being 'just friends'. Some guys treat girls they like as sisters, protecting them in a hostile situation, having close ties, elevating themselves mentally to a state where they can talk to a girl they like without fear.

he totally wants to date you (or will at some point in the future)

I used to to have a best friend of the opposite sex up until I tried to date her. We have had a falling out since then though. We still see each other once in a while, but it's not the same.

I have a few close friends of the opposite sex. Some that I have known since first grade. Only once did I have a problem with the boyfriend of one of them (senior year of HS) because he could not accept the fact that a guy and a girl CAN be just friends.

I can be friends with the opposite sex.. but not for long.. the relationship tends to get ''weird'' after awhile and we end up not talking/ignoring each other.

Yeah, I've had friends (both close and not) of the opposite sex since junior high. I used to get those silly questions in junior high and a little in high school, but people don't bother me any more. Also, half of my close guy friends are gay anyway. Not all are though.

I never had close friends like that in real life.

My cousin has a friend like that though.
Him and the girl have known eachother for years. Apparently they have even slept practically naked in the same bed before, but they have never done anything, not even kissed.

My best friend in the world is a girl.

We never considered dating until something that a few friends know about.

We stopped being friends, and now we're friends again. (:

I have two other best friends that are girls, and I have never thought of them as nothing more than a friend.

Actually yeah, my best friend is a girl. I sometimes get questions like this, but I find it annoying, because I don't view her that way, and people think just because she's a girl that I have to be "paired" with her or something.

I used to have that problem in high school. We were almost always together and people usually said: X and Y are dating or something like that. We didn't care at all because we knew that wasn't truth and we continued being friends. Don't let that matter to you TC.

Used to, not anymore. After that bad experience, my cynicism has increased about the whole situation and I now doubt there can ever really be any friendships with the opposite sex that don't involve at least one of the people having some sort of interest in the other.
