I was just wondering, If I was the only one. I love the books that are by Eric Nylund but the Flood by William C. Dietz just is too repetitive. I'm about 80% through the fourth book and I'm loving it so anyone with opinions on this please post :

I know what you mean.

Fall of Reach and First Strike are great.   It's amazing how detail and emphasis was put on the training of the spartans in the first one.

just a casual poster. Don't really discuss much in the way of games. I don't even have a proper icon yet and gave myself a half-%^&ed signature.

Because the books have much moore detail and do not follow the books in the game's exact story base unless you read The Flood which is awfull but the others are great reading and I recommend them to anyone with good taste for Scifi

Because Halo has a story? A large story? Maybe he's interested in it and wants to read it...not everything is covered in the game.

But wouldn't it be smarter for Bungie to convert those books to scripts for Halo prequels/sequels? I mean, I like playing games, but reading books based off of a video game series comes off as obsessive...

Exactly Datsc00, I can't get my quotes to work right. But the books answer alot of covenant questions in halo 2 about the civil war with Elites and brutes, and its always good to get a heads up in the story possibilities for halo 3

Okay but listen they can't put all of those details in the game it a huge amount of time to create cinematics for the scenes and all Halo 2 was already rushed hence the crappy ending cinematic,  so they dont have that much time. And eric nylund paints a great picture in your head for you to follow through the whole story.

They didn't have to rush it, did they? If they didn't they could've put long enough cutscenes in there, given that they did make an enormous profit from the first game....After all, they could start working on a well-polished prequel after the release of Halo 3, seeing as Bungie will most likely have an unbelievable amount of money from both Microsoft and themselves...

Obiviously you dont know much about the game industry and the frustratiing deadlines they have to make and the dreams of the team and those dreams getting crushed because of those deadlines. Heres a link to show what a bungie developer thinks of halo 2.

Druggie, you have not read the books if you did you would know that halo would be a movie not a game if they tried to put in all of the information. So please start arguing in a subject you do not know. I want a simple dicussion of the novels if you have read them yes or no and if any other recommendation of novels alike not constant negative spamming please. Thank You

But if you compile all of the cutscenes from MGS3 together, you can get a 3-hour movie...

How is this spamming? Voicing my opinion on how I feel about the Halo books (which is relevant to the topic, by the way) is not spamming. If you really wanted me to stop talking about this, you could've kindly told me to not get too far into this conversation...I see that you might eventually get too picky about this topic, so I'll do myself a favor and stop posting in it.....Sheesh...

I'm sure alot of them were just grunts or hell even kids, since John and the rest of the S2's were only what, 6, 7 when they joined the project... About the armor, I'm sure they had worse armor, hence Mark V being the "fifth" version of that armor.

Agreed

thats what alot of people think, i did myself for awhile as well.  but if your dorky enough to play the game, whats wrong with a book.  and fall of reach is a very good book.  has a story and alot of combat in it.  there is nothing dorky about it besides it being sci-fi.

Yes i've read all 4. As stated the 1,3 and 4th books are all very good. The one by Dietz was a disaster as it was pretty much a given that he was playing the game a little and then writing what he just did.  Even the enemies in the book were in the exact same location as they were in the novel.. Pathetic.

Beyond that the Nylund books were very good, but I was disapointed with the cheese factor at the end of Ghost of Onyx. Still a good book but they took it in a dumb direction.

It's not a joke. They really were. It's even in the books; reading about them inspires doctor halsey to start the spartan project.

I wasn't so much confused as I was shaking my head thinking how dumb the whole thing got after they got to the city on Onyx. And then the place they end up.... dumb. Really dumb. If most of the Halo lovers new this I think it would take something away from the pretty cool Halo storlyine they have going on.

It was mostly about who died and whatnot... But yeah, the place they ended up was just plain stupid.
