The Alabama GOP marked a successful week in regressive legislation. Gov. Robert Bentley (R) signed the nation's toughest immigration bill into law yesterday, requiring local police to detain suspected undocumented immigrants and Alabama schools to collect student citizenship information. The GOP-led state Senate then rounded out the day by passing a radical anti-abortion bill that bans anyone from performing abortion after 20 weeks — an act that would punish the doctor with "one to 10 years in prison."

If you want an abortion, have an abortion. If you want to keep the baby, don't have an abortion. I don't understand why abortion is such a big issue, nobody is forcing you to kill the fetus

1st, 20 weeks, thats five months...

2nd, it takes a LACK of compasion to pass this bill? Realy? So disalowing the killing of babies at that point shows A Lack of compasion... Really?

But then again, though I am a pro lifer, I am also all for individual freedoms... I think restricting it to 20 weeks is ok... Alow the option to stay open I guess, but give a cut off date.

What we should do is instead of putting the spotlight on abortion, raise awarness about the other options... Try to push adoption or fostering as a better alternative... because it is...

I'm not sure that I like the immigration bit, but the abortion law is good. I actually don't think that it's quite tough enough. Still a step in the right direction.

It's been said before, but this article is incredibly biased. Believe it or not, it is possible to write an unbiased article, so there's really no excuse.

I refuse to take a side on the aborion issue, I'm a man. I therefore have no right to tell any woman what she can or can't do with her body. Also I'm an atheist, so the "it's a sin" argument is a non-point to me.

By 20 weeks the individual should have decided whether or not to continue the pregnancy. I see no reason for abortion getting that far into pregnancy.LJS9502_basic

This topic was supposed to be about the abortion bill.. Yet the first information I see is about the immigration law, which I believe you already made a topic about? Just in case that wasn't enough, you choose a heavily biased source. There are three topics that we can fight each other over.

You also had that coinstar topic, and then just add in kindles and nooks so that there can be two arguments.
