Sony showed this at CES when they had games like GT4 on certain HDTVs and other PC peripherals like 3D gamer glasses from nVidia. I think we're starting to see a rapid comeback of 3D gaming and 3D movies which look better than ever, especially in HD. Nintendo is king of innovation so do you think they'd have a title which had 3D in it by 2012? It'd really me something if they did.

No. I don't think home consoles will get to that point.

Sorry did you say 3D games? There are alredy 3D games what you are talking about is more like Virtual Reality, and these headsets more just replace your television than anything.

I've to be honest when it comes to so called 3-D video games, movies, etc. I'm very sceptical. The technology has been around since the 50's and although there have been major advancements since then, 3-D has sadly failed thus far to live up to the hype. I still remember the dissapointment of Rad Racer for the NES. What I have seen of it so far really isn't that spectacular. If 3-D games actually takes off and that's a big if, then I'm sure that Nintendo will surely follow suit.

Sorry for the confusion. When I say 3D, I mean the game comes off the screen and feels more real. Virtual reality is different, you play the game on that headset thing, not on your TV. With 3D gaming the game comes off the screen as you're watching it so there's more immersion. I think a lot of consoles will do that nex-gen because HD graphics and motion control can only immerse you so much. 3D tech will work better and be cheaper to use by 2012 so some developers may take advantage of it. It's still some years off before the industry really utilizes this thing but I'd give it about 3 years and it'll be more popular by then.

There are only a few genres that would work with real 3D gaming.

nah, i don't think we are that far in technology to do something like that. it will be pretty neat, but we might see some mind control devices or something. dunno, only time will tell.

The conversation is about 3D in the form of wearing those 3D glasses to make the images appear to be coming out of the TV, not just just 3D graphics. The problem with 3D is that it's always been gimmicky and only fun for a short period of time. Of course, people accuse the Wii of the same thing, so who knows! lol. I haven't seen a pair of 3D glasses in years... are they still red and blue, or have they finally moved beyond that?

Let's see: First-Person Shooter This ones obvious. First-Person Horror Oh the scary possibilities. Any game with cutscenes. Just like a 3D movie. You get the idea.

How would a FPS work well with head tracking? I'd greatly appreciate an explanation because I just don't see it. :)

I can tell you right now just about how realistic a Nintendo virtual reality game will ever get. Pick up a Wii remote. Actually, get a virtua-boy, that's even more realistic than that even.

Didn't you watch the video? I think it would be quite nice to be able to look around objects in order to shoot my opponents.

Okay, you look around a wall and kill a guy, right? Okay what happens next? You cannot move through the rest of the game because head tracking requires the player to move their body.

how head tracking could be used in FPS, you would have the nunchuk control stick for movement, but the head tracking could be used for subtle movements while aiming. Also it would be amazing using head tracking for some kind of bullet-time mode.

I don't want to play games that are 3D like 3D films. It honestly seems like it would add nothing to the experience.
