I have wii menu 4.0 and photo channel 1.1 but for some reason I cannot get my wii to play a movie file I've tried .MOV, MPEG, and AVI formats and none seem to be supported by my Wii. If anyone know why please help. Thanks in advance for any useful info.

There are special convertors that convert to the wii format which infact is a quicktime format with some extension which makes it unique from the typical .mov format, when the wii came out back in 2006 I used a convertor called Wii Video 9 I think its still out and it worked great I just never thought that playing videos on the wii was any good as the format is quite big and a 60min movie can go from anywhere like 3gb-4gb which is what I did nto like about it, not to mention it lacks the FF and REW features its really basic.

The converter I believe is called Red Kawa. Also note that this paticular converter tends to increase the size of the original format for some innane reason. So have at least a 2gig SD card handy.

Okay the wii video 9 does not work so I'll see how this other program works, have you used it or just heard about it? Also space is not an Issue as I'll only be using it to view short clips of the family.

Edit: Red Kawa and Wii video 9 are one in the same and that program successfully converted but the wii was unable to play it. The wii said that format is not recognized.
