I'm thinking about buying this game (want a new game), but what exactly do you do in this game? Can someone who has played the new one or one in the past please explain it?

I'm watching the marathon video here at GameSpot and they said something about once you go into the city? So you move? I'm really interested in this game, just hope someone can explain more for me :)

Ok you move into a town where your neighbours are cute little animals. You buy a house from the shop owner and you have to pay the loan off, you then get a bigger house and another loan. You keep paying the loans and you get a bigger house to fit all of your collected items in.
It's really a collecting game and a socialising game, which is really addictive- you'll find yourself spending hours in this game. It's a virtual life sorta thing.
The online part of the game allows you to visit other people's towns and for them to come to yours. You can speak to them with the new WiiSpeak function.
Descriptions of Animal Crossing always sound boring and pointless. But this game is awesome and I highly recommend it to you.

Let us know if you end up getting it or not

Yeah. I was debating whether to get Wild World or some other game. I ended up getting Wild World, and I never regretted it. Even now, months after getting it, I still am yet to get bored with it.

Personally,I found it nice at the very beginning (played the DS version) and got bored very quickly. Its charme vanishes very quickly and leaving you with the feeling it is pointless (IMO)

I played the GC version, and I played it quite often for about 2,5 month. It's really fun to play. I played about half an hour each day or so, but that's about as much as you'd like on a day. While the lastability of the game is huge, there isn't that much to do each day. It's still fun to expand your house and play NES games (although I'm not sure if that's included in the new one). It's just that after a while, you will only fish a bit, and dig some holes and look for the things that give you the largest amount of bells.
