Sorry if this is way old news, but numerous people on the Internet have had a problem with WiiConnect24 overheating the GPU and causing graphical glitches. It just happened to me. It stinks.

Did it kill your Wii? Are you having to have it fixed? My Wii has died 2 or 3 times(I think it is a Xbox 360 in disguise) but I forget what it was for.Sorry if this is way old news, but numerous people on the Internet have had a problem with WiiConnect24 overheating the GPU and causing graphical glitches. After suffering dead pixels from having my WiiConnect24 on all the time, I decided to turn it off. Now they only occur occasionally, but it could be fixed by resetting the console.

No, luckily it's only minor artifacting right now, as I managed to catch it at an early stage. For now I have my Wii unplugged, and I will wait a day before attempting to play again. I'm hoping no permanent damage has occurred, or at the least that no more damage will occur if I keep WiiConnect24 off. Here are few videos from people who have been having the same problem.Sorry if this is way old news, but numerous people on the Internet have had a problem with WiiConnect24 overheating the GPU and causing graphical glitches. No, it's not a huge deal, but it is pretty annoying, and apparently it can get progressively worse. Never thought I would have this kind of problem with a Nintendo console. Their systems are usually pretty robust.
I have had mine on for 3 years and never had an issue. all of the units that have the GPU issue will fail, wii connect24 just helps it happen faster. what this mean is you should leave it on all the time as the unit will fail within it's first year and you can get it replaced. it had something to do with a faulty heat sink, but i forget the details. I thought this issue only effected a certain number of launch wiis.Sorry if this is way old news, but numerous people on the Internet have had a problem with WiiConnect24 overheating the GPU and causing graphical glitches. hmmm... Thx for the advice. I guess I should do so. I have had my wii since launch thus, and so far no problems and have never turn off the wiifi24chang_1910Same here. I'll turn it off until there is a good reason to leave it on.
Something like that happened to me, except it was really bad. Like, it made games unplayable, i couldn't see anything because all the pixels were scrambled and stuff. I sent it in and they fixed it, and i turned WiiConnect24 off, and its been fine
I always had WiiConnect24 on until a few months ago. My Wii overheated and dots started all over the screen and learned it was the GPU. Since then I turn my Wii all the way off.
to turn off WiiConnect24, you don't have to keep pressed the power button until the red light appears, what you have to do is to go to the Wii settings, then to the WiiConnect24 options and turn off Standby Connection, now the red light will stay permanently;so when there is an update just turn it on.
I keep my games in the wii until I wanna play a different game and have wiiconnect24 on all the time. I guess I should do something about it.
This might be an obvious question to some but whatever...
What does wiiconnect24 do anyways?
Respond to the question by a PM. Send the PM to me because I don't want to come back to this thread.
Thanks
Just another thing.....
I just turned wiiconnect24 off after reading this thread and tried charging my ipod on the wii.
My ipod didnt charge with wiiconnect24 off but it did with wiiconnect24 on.
If I plug in a keyboard to use on the internet channel (with wiiconnect24 off) will the keyboard work or not work like the ipod thing I talked about?
And please respond to me by PM
Thanks

Totally unrelated, I charge my PS3 remotes on my Wii (Blasphemy I know) and I don't have WiiConnect24 on.
I've never had problems with WiiConnect24, but I should turn it off... the only thing I use it for is for Mario Kart tourney updates and I don't even take part in those :P
Good to know. I always keep mine on and I've had no problems. But I don't use it/its better to be safe than sorry, so I guess I'll turn it off.
I always make sure to remove the disc after I'm playing. I used to leave it in after I played, but then I began to notice that the blue light would just come on at random times!
