Should I buy a Nintendo N3DS or wait for the Nintendo NX project?

Hi guys,

I'm gonna try to be short. I have a Playstation 4 but I still feel like I lack something to fill my "gamer gap" and things like "Monster Hunter", "Pokemon", "Super Smash Bros.", "Super Mario" would be great for me. The thing is that Nintendo is probably announcing something later (the NX project) and I'm afraid that I might regret buying the N3DS. But on the other side "Pokemon: Super Mystery Dungeon" is also coming out and I feel super excited to play it,

So what do you suggest? Lose my head and buy the handheld or suck up to it and wait to see what this NX project things ends up turning out to be?

Thanks

The amount of great games the handheld has is more then enough to consider it. All the games you listed are superb and will keep you playing for months. In our home we have N3DS (Largely thanks to my wife being a Nintendo fanboy since Game Boy Color) and once in a while when she isn't playing I would jump into Bravely Default or Mario Kart or Donkey Kong (my favorite). It's a great addition if you have a console.

It offers more variety and most importantly - fun. The reason why I will always have Nintendo product.

As for the Project NX, I wouldn't expect anything but official announcement at the E3 2016 and if we are lucky Christmas of the same year release date. However it's more realistic and probable we won't see it until 2017 fiscal year. Even if the NX does arrive for Christmas of 2016 the new console/handheld needs time to built its library of good games. You can easily spend the next two years enjoying the N3DS and when you are ready move over to the NX platform.

I think you should look for one on the cheap. Possibly look toward second hand options at least. It's a tough decision buying one at this point in time. But if you do decide to get one, know that there is an awesome catalogue of games waiting for you.

@thebasto: Really depends if you like 3D. The NX will certainly have handheld functions, but will most likely not be 3D.

If you like 3D get the N3DS, otherwise wait for the NX.

I would wait for the NX. I think the 3DS had some good titles, but it felt like there should have been more when you consider how long the system has been around for. Fire Emblem Awakening was by far the best game available for the system. I just felt better having money for groceries, than having a system with only one exclusive I really could sink my teeth into.

Wait and see what the NX has to offer. There is some real potential there, especially for a better system library.

I say, hungry? Why wait. Grab you a N3DS on cheap for Black Friday, then enjoy it everyday until the NX releases. then ask yourself, do i want a NX also to have fun everyday with?

I'd wait for NX... I've been contemplating getting a Wii U (have really good deals atm), but decided to wait for NX.

Wait

We've seen the 3DS lose momentum to the point where Nintendo is putting their most lucrative and famous handheld franchise on a cell phone instead of the handheld.

Look for that trend to follow.

Wait for the NX and see how it's going to be. Since the shelf life on the 3DS is just about up look for either a new handheld or cell phone app to be a complimentary piece to the NX.

There's no use getting old tech, if you lasted this long without it there's no real pressure to get it now.

You must be new to gaming.

Nintendo games don't go down in price, they stay high.

As you learn more about Nintendo you'll see their price patterns

Anyone who would say that Nintendo doesn't lower their prices (especially in relation to the 3DS), must be new to gaming. Go look up the price of Mario Kart 7 and a few others; Ninendo purposely lowered the prices of these games a while back.

TC, If you want the 3DS dive in. However consider the fact that Nintendo is one of the most giving companies when it comes to backwards compatibility. If it was me I would wait to see what their plans are in that regard.

I would go with getting a New 3DS XL so you can play the games you want now. Nintendo NX is still unknown E3 2016 will be the first look at NX. Plus a Pokémon game might not even be announced for NX for a while. So you are able to play Pokémon games on New 3DS right now along with a lot of other 3DS games.

It is even unsure if Nintendo NX will debut in time for Christmas 2016. Plus it is unlikely that Pokémon will be among the Nintendo NX launch titles. So go with N3DS right now

@Coolyfett: Better hope you can still find the games by then and not pay big money. Took me a long time finding a copy of Kid Icarus Uprising.

If you find value in handheld gaming, it's a no brainer. Super Mario 3D Land, Fire Emblem: Awakening, the remakes of the N64 Zelda games, Bravely Default, and a handful of other games really show the quality and longevity of the system.

We don't even know what the NX will be capable of, so until then, the 3DS is more than enough to fill the void you supposedly have.
