> Origins Trailer: ~youtube.com/watch?v=JL6fOoX9ilE

-- I don't mind the art style but the enemies and other things don't seem to mesh well with the Zelda series

0:25 - this enemy looks ridiculous, like a weird pig thing

0:36 - why is Link fighting a robot pokey thing, doesn't seem to fit the style of the Zelda series at all

1:10 - what is that thing, looks like a goofy pokemon

.

> E3 Trailer: ~ youtube.com/watch?v=P155wBiLu4c&feature=fvwrel

-- The enemies in this game all look great to me. The bird Link flieson looks a bit weird but nothing too strange like the other trailer.

--- The new trailer almost had a Jak and daxter kind-of mechanical feel to it with certain elements, like the robots and the rising platform at 50 sec.. and I don't know why those things would go with zelda but I'm just like that with Nintendo exclusives, kind of how hated count bleck from Super Paper Mario.

The new trailer did the opposite for me.

I'm super pumped and the game is about 20 days away now.

The reason why this game was made with such a unique art design was so that it could reasonably fit these more wacky and eccentric elements into the game. And as we always like to say, it's the gameplay that matters, and if those wackier elements add to the gameplay, I have no qualms.

I liked the trailer. I saw like 4 different shield designs Link had. Some really interesting character models and I want to know more about that girl

This is my speculation:

I think the dungeon shown in the origins trailer deals with time. Did you guys notice how anything inside of the colorful area goes from brown, dull and old to bright and futuristic? Or how the goblin (0:25) is using an electrical cleaver instead of the normal cleaver you will see at the beginning of the game?

Bokoblin Orange

Once you hit that switch, everything around it will transform to what it will look like in the future. That's a pretty unique way to use time.

The Origins trailer definitely increased my hype for this game. Especially that ending seeing the Sheikah protect Zelda. :D

It isn't the same as Windwaker's, while it has the same "cartoony" look, Skyward sword is more of a mix between twilight princess and Windwaker, and it has more of a watercolor look.

Windwaker and Skyward Sword look very different. Skyward Sword doesn't even look cel shaded.

Is every cel shaded game from now is cIassified as unoriginal? And what games have an art direction similar to Skyward Sword? I've never heard anybody compare this art styIe to another video game outside of the Zelda franchise, which this game is different to both Windwaker and Twilight Princess.

If you happen to be able to read the article on Skyward Sword in last months Gameinformer, they specifically say they are trying to push this Zelda game outside of its comfort zone a bit. They are trying new things with it. They aren't trying to totally overhaul and revamp it, but just expand of a Zelda game can be. I'm personally all for this, I like the Zelda games but but they have all basically followed the exact the same design concept since Ocarina of Time and need a bit of a shot in the arm IMO.

The whole game was set out to be something different or new for the series -- I don't really mind, it's been done before. Link's Awakening is really different than the rest of the Zelda 2D games but it's awesome.

They wouldn't be the first mechanized enemies in a Zelda game. Those laser towers in TP and a certain boss in WW were mechanical and overall looked similar to the enemie shown in the trailer.

I never thought Zelda games have a shared consistent universe. Every game has an individual universe and each is consistent in it's own boundries. At least that is how I see it. So I won't criticise the enemies before playing the game.

Also I know that Zelda games share a timeline and a universe but this is just how I approached the games.

ive liked the art direction more and more as theyve released new videos. they have reintroduced familiar elements (the enemies mentioned in the OP are long time veterans of the series) that have been reworked to fit the new controls. like the lowly bokoblin now makes you judge whether you need a vertical or horizontal slash and the the pillar thingy (i forget what theyre called) has different tiers with differently angled weaknesses. however, what ive really been liking is how theyve shown more movement. the sky's texture moves around, pools of lava get interrupted suddenly, and little rays of light dance along link's cap. it really works well with the impressionist direction.

I think it's awesome! I'm super psyched, and having come to this all the way from playing the original Legend of Zelda, the game and artwork have continued to evolve over the years and I love the new direction they are taking. None of the games have been exactly the same, but they never should be. I think it looks amazing!

That trailer has actually increase my already overflowing interest in the game...:P

But I understand what your saying. I'm still a fan of the Twilight Princess art sty1e myself. And actually prefer they'd used it on a game like (Based on what I've seen...). But I don't think the game looks terrible. Looks pretty good to me...

As far as enemies goes, they seem Zelda-ish to me. Don't see what the problem is...

Don't get me wrong I'm still excited for the game, I just hate when they add things that don't seem to mesh well. I'm just a pure fan like that, not against adding new things, as long as they fit well. And some of the things I saw weren't fitting, but I still think this game will be great.

I also thought the trailer was fantastic. The characters/enemies look like something Nintendo would conceive, so that didn't phase me too much. As for the art style, it is a bit different, but allows for vibrant colors and a wide variety of different objects/landscapes/characters.

Oh, and it was really weird when link turned into a bunny, that whole other world just creeped me out, still an awesome game tho.

Windwaker is the second best Zelda game only beaten by Link to the Past

As far as Zelda games go Windwaker is the best that the series can achieve without being top down
