Poll How much should New Nintendo 3DS cost in US? (6 votes)

$149 New 3DS/ $179 New 3DS XL 50%
Keep current prices of $169/$199 respectively 33%
Even lower! 17%

We all know 3DS sales have slowed everywhere, especially the US. Nintendo hopes to alleviate this with the New 3DS in 2015. In Japan the New 3DS is the same price as the original 3DS and XL, 15,000 Yen and 18,800 yen respectively. So that would point at the New 3DS costing the same as orignal 3DS and XL, $169/$199

But is this good enough? With the US sales already dropping for the platform, should Nintendo aggresively price this new hardware at say $150 for the New 3DS and $180 for the new XL? They could eliminate the $130 2DS by doing this and clear up some brand confusion.

What do you think? Obviously we'd all want a lower price but what makes sense for Nintendo and what do you think they'll actually do?

I think the current prices are fair.

Agreed, but it'll be a pleasant surprise if it does turn out to be lower than expected.

@trugs26: I do too but 3DS sales are way down with even $129 2DS that is often $99 at stores. Think about: original Zelda, 3D Pokemon and a $40 cheaper SKU aren't stopping sales from slowing. In 2007 you'd be crazy if you predicted that. I do think the 2DS isn't entirely what consumers wwant though

Nintendo needs to offer a trade in program for existing 3DS and 3DS XL owners. Something like ship them your 3DS and pay $100, they'll give you the equivalent upgrade and transfer all rights and content to your new system.

@lamprey263: $100? Lol that's asking too much.

Just buy a New 3DS and sell your old one on Craigslist or for cash at pawn shop/GameStop. $100 on Craigslist, probably $50 at best at a store. Nintendo doesn't need to do anything. Do people get upset every time a new phone comes out and demand their $200-$300 back? You can resell those to carriers (but not necessarily straight to Apple,Samsung, etc) just like you can resell your gaming hardware to Best Buy, Wal-Mart, GameStop, etc.
