After 3 hours of RE4, the only thing close to a scare for mewas being suprised when I broke a box to find a snake that jumped at me.I thought this before I had the game, but now I'm sure:This isn't a survival horror game, it's a third person shooter. Still incredibly fun, tho.
I've only played the GC version, and it was only a little nerve-racking until about 3 hours in when I discovered I could run. I know that's really stupid, but I honestly never tried pressing B... and it wasn't in the manual.
Now that I know I can outrun pretty much anything the game throws at me, it's not scary at all.
I'm immune to "scary games" and I've played so many of them that I just don't feel anything anymore and never really have. I don't know what it is with you guys.
The first time I played it I was scared of the regenerators and the blind guys with the claws. When you walk into the room with two of them and a couple of normal guys I had to pause the game for a minute to prepare myself for it mentally, can't say that about other games personally.

I pity you. I love the emotional involvement in a game, it makes it that much more immersive and rewarding.
It really wasn't scary for me, except for one part later in the game when one of those flamming creatures charge at you from a refrigerator or whatever it was.
When your near the end of the bunker and your walking through the long dim hallway with the two almost empty rooms on your left and right. I had the volume off so I wouldent wake anyone up and I didnt hear the regeneraters breathing so I ran blindly into the room. Turned around and it was right there.
I'm working on this game right now on the ps2. I'm frantically just trying to finish this game. How long is it? I'm over 22 hours. I enjoy some parts, but I can't really get into it. The most scariest parts of the game include those people with the chainsaw, one was chasing me around the whole level. Then I played as Ashley and the only thing I can do is crawl under tables and throw lanterns.
RE4 is very very tame in horror. In terms of scariness
Half Life 2 > RE 4..............heck........Rayman 2 > RE 4. Some of those creatures in Rayman give me the ****s. I was 10 back then, but still *shudders*.
I didnt get scared or anything, Ive played the original on gamecube already. I actually wrote a review on this game saying i preferred the one on GC and for some reason gamespot deleted the review and docked me some points, lol. I find that to be very strange.
The game never actually SCARED me. But it definitely had those elements that freaked me out. The environment, the sounds, the music, the overall atmosphere was nerve-racking. Those bloody regenerators freaked me out the most. If you're in a dark hallway and you hear like choked breathing.... it's just freaks me out cuz of the anticipation. But I never want to play it because it was too scared.
That is one thing I thought RE4 did best. It's environment. It's aura. It's tone. It was beautifully well done and succeeded in freaking me out in those closed spaces like the freezer.
Picked up the Wii version today, first time ever playing RE4. I'm not really that big of a horror fan. I Know im no where in the game, but so far its been cool. I expected it to be more scary I guess. Now im not saying the crap is'nt spooky or creepy at all, but im not like screaming and freaking out, jumping out of my chair and stuff. However, I just have this thing where I dont like playing at night for too long, then I do start to get jitters :)
Well i was once with my friend playing it and he said look out theres a guy right beside and i screamed, which was so akward because he told me that to.
