Everyone has probably already heard of ASH - Archaic Sealed Heat before. It is a stunning SRPG that is in Japanese that will be the first game to utilize a 256MB or 2Gb Nintendo DS cartridge. I finally got my hands on it, and I can honestly say that all of the dozens of in game videos I have seen already are BEAUTIFUL, but the main gameplay itself is fairly basic. The sprites for the characters are just ugly. But so far it is a fairly fun game. So I posted up 2 videos here:

I wonder if the reviewers and import impressions people somehow missed the buttons option like they did when they reviewed and did impressions of Luminous Arc.

Lol I remember that... I'm not sure about Archaic Sealed Heat though, there is just so much Japanese text, and I don't understand a word of it.

The sprites on the battle map are indeed badly animated and strangely pixelated. I didn`t play much, but from the first demonstrative battle (some dragon thing beating the crap out of a heroic figure and 2 of his unimportant soldiers) it seemed that the 3d prerendered sequences idea wasn`t a very good one. If they bothered so much with it, they could have used a more artistic approach, maybe more hand-drawn style rather then the obvious 3D renders. Also, the animations do not blend together well. You have the normal stance animation which loops over and over, and when you attack, the sprite dissapears for a second, then reappears, andanother animation starts from a different place. There is no continuity between the animations. Like in other newer RPG`s, voice acting is used only for the important cut-scenes so, I think they could have dropped it totally, and use realtime 3D graphics, less FMV`s,making the 256 MB cartridge not necessary. I don`t think this is going to score too much, especially on the GFX side.

Apparently famitsu gave it pretty decent scores, 8's and 9's.

For me, this game is ok, but with SRPG's such as Luminous Arc, there is no reason to get this one.

Although the graphics arent so good for some, a friend of mine thinks its good, i thinkthat maybe we should look at it froma different angle.

The fact that they were able to use a 256KB cartridge is probably the start of something new for the DS. Just imagine if this cartridge type becomes more widely available to game producers, that would mean longer and hopefully better DS games.

I think that a larger cart could add tons to the DS, however, it was so poorly used in this game... I mean they just have a ton of videos (which is still nice..)

From what I see, only the characters in battle mode look good.

It just looks too slow to me. All the menu options could have been streamlined a bit....

I really hope they Announce an Official Release Date for NA pretty soon!!!...
It's no fun to play the game in Japanese if I don't know what the heck is going on, or what I'm supposed to do lol

I can't imagine how long it'll take to translate all that text, there is so much! And there are voiceovers, etc.

yeah I know. It's a really big game, there is a lot of voice acting in there...

But then, I also read this News:

ASH heading to US

Mistwalker has confirmed that ASH (Archaic Sealed Heat) will indeed be heading to the US. The title is slated to hit sometime during the holiday season. ASH centers around a queen turned sword fighter due to her castle burning down. We have only seen a few screens of the game, and they were from a long time ago. The graphics looked absolutely outstanding. It should be interesting to see what happened to the graphical presentation since then.

I'd just like to have an official release date; that would be really nice!

I've been playing it a bit more, and I kind of like it. I still theink Luminous Arc is way better though...
