GUFU Musical Composer Challenge

An idea just popped into my head, I know GUFU loves music, but how good is GUFU at creating music? So, I have designed a small challenge to figure out who can compose the best music out there.

The challenge is simple, create a one minute and thirty second long (1:30) song of any genre and key. The catch is that all music must by synthesized by software. This would include software like FL Studio or Garage Band. I'm still up in the air if people can use things like physical keyboards. Microphones for vocalswould be allowed (but please god spare us GUFU. I don't have high hopes that any of you can sing). No pre-recorded or pre-made rifts or tracks can be used. All music must be 100% original.

We would judge all of the songs by uploading them to some website where we could all listen to them and vote on our favorites. If there are a lot of entries, then we'll pick some judges to do that for us.

So what do you all think? I'm leaving it out there for some discussion about the rules and whatnot.

A quick overview of the rules...

• 1:30 long song
• Any key
• Any genre
• All music (except vocals) must be synthesized using software
• No physcial keyboards, electronic drum sets, or any instruments of any kind may be used (to level the playing field for people who don't have them)
• No pre-created rifts or tracks. All music must be 100% from scratch.

So, if you're intrested please tell me and submit feedback and questions. I'm thinking a 2 week timeframe to create the song, longer if we all decide we need more time.

Well...

1. Drawing the line from "people like music" to "people are going to want to write their own music and let it be judged by GUFU" is a bit of a stretch.
2. "No real instruments" in a music competition is kind of limiting your potential contestant base.
3. On a related note, there's a laundry list of rules for what is as far as I can tell is a friendly competition with no reward beyond bragging rights. How about people just do whatever they want and hopefully they won't be too douchey about it?

I've been meaning to try out Garage Band on my iPad for a while so I might give it a shot, although everything I've ever written has just been a thinly-veiled rip-off of whatever I was listening to at the time.

I'd give it a shot if I wasn't going to be teaching all day every day the next two weeks. And another course after that.

I think Wasdie only made this thread so he could share his own creations.

I actually haven't created anything yet. I was just proposing a little competition to maybe spur some creativity from people including myself. I'm not trying to beat anybody here. It's just easier to get the motivation to do something if there was some insentive.

I won a competition like this in senior year of highschool but I was motivated by grades and showing up my whole class.
