Okay so in the midst of the whole Black Ops outselling Modern Warfare 2 in pre orders thing, Infinity Ward mess up, Activison monthly COD subscription rumours and ridiculously priced map packs, I thought I would ask one question.... What are your thoughts on the Call of Duty franchise?

I find it a bit shallow, IMO. The story is not that enticing and there's little variety to be had in the way the game is played. I do like playing them, though, but they're not my favorite FPS games by a long shot.

COD was fine until it got to COD3 which had an okay online mode and a terrible single player.

COD4 picked up the pieces with a very good online and offline.

COD:WAW was good but the online got boring a tad quickly.

COD:MW2 had a stupidcampaign and the online feels very buggy and also boring too fast, like WAW.

COD online needs to be more simple eg no need for nukes, danger close and pointles things like ninja which are only there to counteract heartbeat sensors

As someone who mostly only plays single player FPS, CoD is, or rather, was, an enjoyable game for when you want to have nothing complicated on your mind and just shoot. CoD2 for instance was terribly linear and at times even felt like an on-rail shooter, but I played it right after beating S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat, which is an infinitely more complicated, challeningand non-linear game, so it was a nice change of pace. Lately, the series seems to have taken a turn for the worse, though. The series has been heavily commercialised (more games = shorter development time), and it followed the annoying trend of shifting focus to the multiplayer mode, leaving us with a tacked-on single player campaign. This is why we get lackluster and generic stuff like MW2's campaign.

With such politics, the franchise won't last long. They better try making the benefits for gamers more instead charging a fee for online play. @DraugenCP - I love it how you mention Stalker in each of your posts

Cod is pretty good fish. Call of Duty? It was good up until 4-ish. WWII games getting old? Going modern isn't exactly freshing things up, either. Even though it was fun and the online was kickass (for a week. Christmas break was enough to milk the fun), it got stale real quick. Hell, I'm not even sure if the leap from 2 to 4 was that great. MW2? Surprisingly enough, the campaign was the best part of it for me. The multiplayer customization was better, but the balance issues were... issues. Even if online was balanced, it was the same game at the end of the day (perhaps my biggest problem with the game right there). WAW was somehow a lot better than I thought, probably because I've been swamped with more modern shooters than WW2 ones. Nazi Zombies is a plus, but everything else wasn't that bad, either. Yet, it's still the same old COD formula. The games are accessible and tries catering to casuals, hardcore gamers, and kids (which are divided up between the above two groups), but I'm starting to feel that franchises such as Madden and even Pokemon evolve (no pun intended) more in between titles. I wouldn't pay for their DLC and if Activision's starting subscription fees for a series that is going downhill, I might as well suggest a cheaper alternative: rounding up everyone with a shred of common sense and screwing them in the ass.

Imo COD 4 was the best. Almost everything was balanced other than some perks and the m16 and killstreaks dont kill that much. WAW was great I dont own it but i played it before so I cant say much other than Nazi zombies pwn. Mw2 was decent in a way but it was something like: We did mw1 right lets try it again! sort of thing. They just fix a few stuff that MW1 has wrong and made everything more deadly like nub tube, perks, and killstreaks

I've honestly never played a Call of Duty game. No reason why; just haven't picked up a copy yet.

COD4: perfect (minus no rumble on the PS3)

WaW: very good for what it was, more map packs, Nazi Zombies, more gore, oh yeah

MW2: overrated (need i say more?)

I've only played Modern Warfare, World at War, and MW2. Multiplayer is terrible in those games to me.

i think the Cod franchise is really fun and i love playing it... however its not 15 dollars a month fun and if activision does this then they will actually lose money. black ops looks really cool but they are cranking these games out way too fast. THey should slow down so people can have time to prestige without having to start over with a whole new game.

Call of Duty died the minute Infinity Ward was disbaded and Activision is simply trying to hoard as much money as possible before the herd notices. If you want to keep getting milked through ridiculously overpriced map packs, subscriptions and whatnot though, then by all means: be my guest.

Its just a joke cash cow used to milk everyone that's on the MW bandwagon. The gameplay is shallow, the story is shallow, the map packs cost $15 which INCLUDE OLD MAPS THAT YOU ALREADY PAID FOR. The series from MW2 on is just a joke now. I don't care if it continues, it will just keep on milking idiots anyways.

CoD1-4 were great.

I've always enjoyed the COD franchise because every game has delivered exactly what i have expected, a great shooter, be in in WWII or Modern times. The online play has been the strongest point for a while now, but even with glitches and some minor problems with balance, the community is still strong and the game remains fun. Every COD game is easy to just pick up and play.

Modern Warfare was the game that really pulled me into the franchise and so far I'm really loving the games. I've actually enjoyed the single-player campaigns and online multiplayer is a total blast. Black Ops is looking great so as of now I love the series. Time will tell if it will continue to hold my interest.

This is how I see it.

Call of Duty VS Battlefield.

COD is the ditzy blonde who you can pick up when your bored and feeling a bit dirty. But no long term value because she is too stupid know what youre doing.

Battlefield is the clever brunette who you could possibly make a commitment with because she is much deeper and more interesting than the blonde. But you sometimes need tome time away from her because she talks too much.

There are to diffrent developers for COD Since COD:MW2 was out i found that a lot of people have the game and enjoy it. But they know nothing about the previous ones. Treyach are making Black Ops. And all around the internet people think it's acctualy COD:MW3.

I like the games (especially COD4) but I dislike Activision and a lot of the people that you meet online, but that's not COD's fault.

Oh yeah, and my opinion on CoD. Well I think CoD is a bit to simple, multiplayer always boils down to a deathmatch and it is just such a pick up and play game that the lack of mentle stimulation makes the game boring fast. Battlefield is better than CoD in my opinon but I think EA really needs some better servers, that lag completely ruins BC2.
