Young country, and a lot of wars in that time. As much as I don't care for it, we do come off as a warlike bunch.
Current tv shows like Homefront, about an American P.O.W. who has defected, and FPS military themed games are preparing us for things to come later down the line. The seeds are being planted now for a one world government. While games and movies like these may be fun and entertaining, over time, it desensitizes viewers from the idea of bringing the battle to our own backyard.
Firstly because the intended audience (largest purchase base) for the games your talking about are predominantly American.
Secondly because most of the developers for the games you're talking about are American.
Go play any of the hundreds of Japanese developed games and you'll find most are based in Japan and modelled on Japanese lifestyle/history/lore.
Because the US tends to be in every modern war, so it would be odd not to have them. Some games do take the focus away from them, like Call of DUty 4 (where the main stars were the British SAS).
I mean, its like asking why are there so many British Criminals in Guy Ritchie films?
because their the easiest to do.. thats basically the sum of it.

Pretty much.
They're easy to do because the US military has the most information out about them. Through books, movies, etc. They're a part of pop culture.
They're the modern cowboys so to speak. Sure, there were cowboys in Mexico and South America, but there's a mystique romanticism about cowboys(and the US military) that apparently resonates with people.
I think americans love it and the rest of the world don't care enough to make a fuss :)They're the modern cowboys so to speak. Sure, there were cowboys in Mexico and South America, but there's a mystique romanticism about cowboys(and the US military) that apparently resonates with people.

cause america tries to police the whole world and leroy jenkins everything?somehow if they made america fight a war in nahm in a game they would somehow win very old and annoying cliche....
Well not like they can toss in us Canadians. What kind of a game would that be... eh :P
"Oh noez, here comes the Canadian Forces with plastic forks and knives"
What would you do in a game like that... seriously. We don't throw Molotovs, we would just toss empty beer bottles at their heads.
Our dang helmets would be KFC buckets for gods sake.
Because: - the US army has always been depicted like the universal good guys, despite being exactly the same as any army in the world - most FPS developers are american - the US constitute a huge slice of the gaming market. If Belgium had a 300 million population, a fair amount of which into gaming we'd see more games about the belgian army - the US military is the most active in the world, killing people in pretty much every country where people have AK-47. A perfect premise for videogamesBlack_Knight_00
This sums it up pretty well, nice said. America is just a good choice because it's a big country (=a lot of sales), they're protrayed as the good guys (because they win, the winners are always the good guys) and they're putting their noses into anything ... I like to live in a neutral country ^^
id charge in with a spoon and spoon people :PWell not like they can toss in us Canadians. What kind of a game would that be... eh :P

they're protrayed as the good guys (because they win, the winners are always the good guys)ArchoNils2Well, in that case the vietcong should be portrayed as the good guys, since they won  ...though one could argue there's no winners in war, only losers :(
I'd like to think CoD4's singleplayer was good because it actually started to make a departure from that (then again, that was vs. russia, so not much new there).
The US VS the world gameplay setting is getting really old now, it's always the same lines, audio, setting, attitude. And it's really getting clichéd. I also would probably say that the US market would be less interested in buying the game if you played as the chinese/russians since it is coded into their society that they are all evil. And since the US constitutes a significant amount of the target audience, devs can't afford to do that.
Americans love to kill people in foreign countries so it is much easier to give them the lead.Plus FPS are more popular in the US than in Europe or Japan.Americans need to satisfy their blood thirst of killing people they dont like or agree with in order to feel happy and satisfied.Plus Fox news propaganda has brain washed them and so they think they are the holy warriors send by Jesus personally to kill all non-democratic and non-christian people worldwide whenver the oppurtunity arises.Plus the adore oil,the black gold. They love to play the exact same things in games they do in real life.
Americans might get offended by what I wrote but they are is always some truth in every exxaggeration.

I lol'd!!!
But, seriously, you do realize there were more Canadian forces at Normandy than Americans?
The USA is the target audience for many publishers, so making them out to be the good guys will help sell their product.
Even with all these foreign developers, DICE, Crytek, etc. It seems like it's always the U.S. versus someone, or something else. The Russian are always evil, and America always wins. I'm proud to be an American and all that, but I'd really like to see it from the perspective of another country. I think a game based around the KGB would be awsome. A game where you play as a Chinese soldier in an alternate history setting, where there's a huge civil war in a modern setting, just something other than the United States being so star spangled awesome. Why don't we see more games based around other countries?john129pats
because lets face it, if a game would have america being defeated people will complain no end about it and probably dont even play it. Homefron is the only game i can think with something near that and i bet even in the end us wins.

because americans use beretta 92,at least thats the reason for me.nah im joking, its probably as the other user said.USA is involved in many conflicts.you should try bf 2,3 sides, but as you said US is involved allways
aww czech, you made my day.im CZ,but lets say we dont have exacly colourfull history nor much war eperience.
Yeah, it's a bit stupid, but there are plenty of games (mainly from Eastern Europe) that feature non-American protagonists. STALKER, Metro, Cryostasis... even Arma let's you play as the Russians or other nations, even though the main campaign is still played from an American perspective.
Um...
Because American's are better than everyone else!
No soliders are as good as American Soldiers! U.S.A U.S.A U.S.A etc and so on. :P
Coz most of them are made in America so why wouldn't they feature themselves as heroes? Also, America has a strong army and is currently indulged in Iraq and Libiya regarding war. But i want something featured on Asia. After all we are Asians.
Because America has always been associated with guns. We dominate gun possession in the world, stick our nose in every single conflict, and it's apart of Americana.
As far as desensitizing the mind for "backyard" warfare, give me a break. We (Americans) have been desensitized for a long time to violence. The country was founded on violence, even genocide.
Personally, A WW1 game where you play as a Austrian Soldier (or Hungarian, since the Austro-Hungarian empire had 2 armies) on the Eastern fron would eb awesome. The Easternfront was too big for static trenches and required armies to move constantly. Just read this articleto see how flexible the Eastern front was.
NOTE: Linky function STILL dosn't work for me, so here is the full link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gorlice%E2%80%93Tarn%C3%B3w_Offensive

[QUOTE="Subject-16"]I disagree. Scottish soldiers such as those in the SAS are better. i disagree. Congo's child soldiers can do everything those scottish SAS can do + sell you their sisters and all for a few lines of cocaine.Um...
