Poll Which is the best game? (Divine Divinity, Diablo II, or Baldur's Gate II) (27 votes)

Divine Divinity 11%
Diablo II 56%
Baldur's Gate II 33%

I feel like these are the big 3 quintessential isometric old-style rpg's.

As the title says, DISCUSS!

for me, its definitely diablo 2. still playing this in 2017. i tried icewind dale once (which is basically the snowy version of baldur‘s gate i guess) and it was way too much rpg for me. the other one didn‘t even catch my interest. so pretty obviously diablo II ftw!

@vanilli: I'd say give all 3 a look sometime, all 3 have really deep lore and awesome storylines.

I'd also say Diablo II. I have a lot of fond memories of that game :)

I've played Diablo 2 and Baulder's Gate. Both great games. I'd say Baulder's gate is probably the better of the two, especially in 2017.

I'd say Path of Exile would be a better choice over Diablo 2. Much more modern systems. Better in pretty much every way, yet basically the same kind of game.

I guess I need to play Divine Divinity since I like the Original Sin games so much.

@pyro1245: Divine Divinity is the first game in the series, second game chronologically. It is by far one of the best in the series.

Divinity II is also worth trying out.

This is comparing old-style isometric RPG's, so Diablo II fits, besides, I think Diablo II is the better game of the two, but thats just me.

Only played Diablo II and Baldur's Gate II... Out of the two, I'd probably go with Diablo, but Baldur's Gate is a close second.

Had more fun with Diablo 2, but I think Baldur's Gate is probably the better game. Never played Divine Divinity, wasn't even aware of it's existence until I saw this commercial. It's pretty funny :D

Baldurs Gate 2/Throne of Bhaal was the best made game, and certainly great.

But Diablo 2/ Lord of Destruction is by far the most addicting. I still have characters 16 years later.

I voted for BG2 because it's more epic and better story, but D2 has that addictiveness factor thanks to the best random generator in gaming history.

No Planescape Torment? We are talking PC right?

I'd put Planescape Torment and Fallout 2 over all of those others.

Possibly the Ultima series as well.

Diablo 2. it really rocked back then. Played it for hundreds of hours, completing it with every character and so on.

Many keep saying BG2 is one of the best of the era. I disagree. I loved the first BG, so got BG2 at launch, but it was just such disappointment. Amn was boring city, and there were very little wilderness locations in BG2. Compare this to BG1 that had dozens of wilderness maps in it along with several towns and villages. Yeah, BG1 had much more content than BG2, and was the best traditional RPG of the era.

I guess I'm the only one rooting for Divine Divinity. The game has a great dark fantasy story, better then Diablo II by a country mile.

Every single quest is interesting, melee combat feels a bit better, though both have great lore, this game I feel, has it a bit better, due to your character becoming Lucian the Divine in later games.

I haven’t played Divinity. I have to go with Diablo 2. I go back to that game so many times. Baldur’s Gate II is also one of my favorite games, but after I finish it, I’m good for several years. Same with Planescape and other notable isometric games of the era. I play Diablo 2 every 1-2 years since I got it in the early 2000s.

@SOedipus: You should try Divine Divinity if you are into early-era Isometric Dark Fantasy games, it will be right up your alley. It has awesome quests and an awesome story.

I think Diablo and BG are too different to be accurately compared... the answers you get wind up being subgenre preference more than anything. Honestly, I probably had more fun with Diablo 2, but again it's a different genre to my mind

I can't believe there's only 1 saying that there are very different games. Diablo 2 is a grinding ARPG game, Divine Divinity is an ARPG, and Baldur's Gate is an RPG.

All of them are incredibly good for their genres. Diablo II is still playing today, online, with great population, probably is the most successful of those, but Baldur's Gate amongside Fallout were the ones in which modern RPG are based. And Divine Divinity is like if Baldur's Gate had a child with Diablo 2...

I think all of them are like, the father's of Isometric RPG's.

Divine Divinity coming around the same time as BG2 and Diablo II.

Baldur's Gate and Diablo aren't even remotely in the same genre. Maybe you're thinking of Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance, now that you can compare to Diablo.

@Black_Knight_00: Isometric RPG's. One being action-rpg and the other being normal RPG doesn't matter to me, personally.

Can't really compare Diablo to Baldur's Gate it is something completely different. Diablo 2 is a fun hack&slash game while Baldur's gate 2 is one of the best games ever made, certainly one of the best RPGS. Deep story where you can choose to be evil/good/neutral and it actually affects the game and still has many things even modern RPGs don't have. Diablo 2 is a fun game, maybe best in its genre, but can't really compare to Baldur's Gate which is a revolutionary game, an art. I have finished both multiple times, haven't played divine divinity so I won't comment, but it's pretty simple to me. If you finished Diablo and Baldur and you know something about RPGs you will always choose BG. If you only finished diablo and maybe "tried" the other games you shouldn't be voting :)
