7 is probably one of the best FF titles. Hard to top it IMO.
But I'd go with FF6 (it's 6 on GBA) (and FF3 on Wii, or SNES i think) but ya both are the same game. ( i don't know why)
Number 5 is a good one. I think it has the best jobs system.
Try out Chrono Trigger. Made by the same developer, and has the same fighting system as FF 4-7. Plus Magus is a bada**.
Final Fantasy X is an excellent game, but it's sort of a love-it-or-hate it game since it has a lot of cinematic cutscenes and a slightly different combat system from the other games.
I didn't like the entire Final Fantasy series, with the exception of XII, so in my opinion you should play that one. If you like the general idea though, listen to the others.
I played FFIV, loved it, I'm almost done with VI on GBA, loving it, and I'm on chapter 12 of XIII. Enjoying it so far.
VIII and IX definitely. I don't get the hate for X, it's one of the bests plots for FF around.
Does anyone like FFX-2? I have only played FFX and am considering buying FFX-2

Battlesystem-wise, it's worth it. Don't expect much from the script though, it's Charlie's Angels meets FFX, just corny with a side of cheese. They were cashing in the popularity of X.
Also, don't pay more than 5-10$ for it.
I'd just play them in order and have my own opinion on each game, even though each game is not connected with another unless you're talking about X-2 but I just like having a marathon with the first FF game all the way to the current ones.I own a bunch of them, but only finished FFVII.

You can't really define Final Fantasy by one game in the series. Each game or set of games are different. I would say each three games are in a group, and used a similar battle system up until the tenth, where people began to hate Final Fantasy, though the game itself was good. The first three were classic turn based, and at this point are pretty much cookie cutter RPGs. The next three used the active time battle system, which is sort of turn based but monsters still attack you while you are choosing your attacks. The PS1 games had a similar battle system, but the series story and setting was much more in depth because of the movement to the PS1, while the next two followed suit. Then Final Fantasy X came along, which was beautiful, but had changed it's combat to a more turn-based system, with some tweaks. Final Fantasy XI was an MMORPG, and Final Fantasy XII was a tactical RPG. Final Fantasy XIII had interesting combat, but lacked some of the classic points of an RPG: Towns. This made the game really boring to play. Do not mention Final Fantasy XIV, it does not exist and no one should ever play it if it does.
You don't really need 100 of every spell. That's like being level 100 in a certain stat. It overpowers you. Moreover, using a spell on occasion isn't going to set you back very far.
I think I'll have people agree with me that X-2 is, without a doubt, the most widely-hated FF game; that or XIII. If you ask me, it's not as good as FFX, and it plays nothing like it. It's still worth a buy. The gameplay is enjoyable. The biggest flaw I found is that it's probably the easiest in the entire series.Does anyone like FFX-2? One thing I did find strange was the fact you always level after 1,000 exp, no matter what level you're atAirGuitarist87.hack//G.U. games are the same, I also found it a bit strange but I got used to it, it just gets harder to get to 1000 as you level up.
Best one for me was IX. I'm pretty nostalgic about the original so I'd play that too. Aside from those, I'd probably agree with what Yarvem said above.AllicrombieI agree with this. I played7years ago when itcame out on the PS1.I downloaded 9 recently on my PS3 and it's pretty good even by todays standards. I think 9 has aged better then 7.
.hack//G.U. games are the same, I also found it a bit strange but I got used to it, it just gets harder to get to 1000 as you level up. I've read the .hack// manga but I've always fancied trying those games out...
