What's more satisfying IYO?
This?
Or this?

I find headshots more satsifying since they're harder to pull off but Knife kills are great too :D

Exactly my thought. In a game like Battlefield 2, getting a stealthy knife kill on a someone that has been camping and taking out your team from afar can be very "satisfying", yet sniping takes a lot of skill, you need good timing, as well as good accuracy, especially when the target is moving. Thus, taking a headshot from far away is a little better in my opinion, because it's good to see your sniping skills, which you may have worked so hard to better, pay off.headshots because they take more skill imo. but stabbing an unsuspecting player in the back is very satisfying ^_^

I'd say knife/melee kill but most online games these days your character basically lunges toward the person after pressing the melee button, takes the skill out if IMO. If only games were like Halo 1 and didn't automatically lunge at them, then it would actually take a certain amount of skill.
I'd say a headshot.
Depends on the game's gore intensity ;)
Knive is satisfying if the kill is bloody and leaves a mess.
For a sniper headshot, strangely, for me it depends on the scope. The scope in OP image would be a satisfying headshot for me - but a big cross centered on his head just won't do it.
Am I a sadist?
A headshot, I suppose.
But definitely the most satisfying time I've had taking down unsuspecting victims was in Batman: Arkham Asylum, using series' of well timed and placed explosive gels and stealth takedowns to clear out an entire room in a matter of seconds after execution.
it depends on the game and how it balances out the gratification for each. for example, its very rewarding to get a good headshot in killzone 2. its a violent game, but there arent constant dismemberings or anything. yet if you get a headshot with a powerful weapon (shotgun or sniper rifle, for example), its the one time you really see any gore (in this case, the head popping into meaty chunks).
but in a game like mgo, im much more satisfied getting a melee kill. for one, its bit harder sneaking up on somebody because its a 3rd person game and your opponent can see you at the last second. also, the melee mechanics and animations are much more complex. once you grab the enemy, you can put your captive to sleep, break their neck, smother them on the ground, or slit their throat.
Although I think it is somewhat of a personal preference, both have their merits. Headshots are great if you want to dispatche your enemy from range, and keep his buddies from finding you. Knife stabs are great when stealth is important. thats just my opinion though
For as much as I love the sound of a Gears headshot, it's just not as satisfying as dropping down from the second floor and shanking someone (or 2 or 3 someones) with a knife in CoD4.
Headshots, because you know their dead once you pull that trigger. Knifeing can come in all sorts of outcomes. The enemy could survive, somehow. Also because headshots are more dramatic, and you can do it from far away and up close.
