Poll What will you do with your gen 8 consoles? (28 votes)

Keep it, put in storage 25%
Keep it, plugged in 54%
Sell it/trade it in/give it away 21%

I’m not upgrading to gen 9 until 2023 or whenever the improved revision consoles are released. I’m perfectly happy playing the gen 8 backlog for the next few years.

But I’m keeping both gen 8 consoles. The Xbox because I like the HDMI in port and want to control my cable box. The PS4 because I have the red Spider Man Pro console and I don’t trust Sony whatsoever when it comes to backwards compatibility, keeping my saves, and respecting my previous purchases.

I'll be waiting at least 6 months if not a year before upgrading. I have plenty to keep me busy still.

I usually keep last gen and current gen plugged in. I have 4 spaces in my set up. Right now I have Xbox, Xbox 360, Xbox One X, and room for my Xbox Series X in a few weeks. I’ve removed my PS3 and WiiU to the basement which joins my Xbox One, Wii, my day one Xbox 360 (it never RRoD’d), and PC.

Bring on next gen!

I only get rid of a console if it stops working.

Honestly, I'm not sure I'll be getting a gen 9 console. Got back into PC gaming recently and will probably focus on that and Switch for now. The only thing I see pulling me back is if they add PS1-3 BC through a software update or something.

Because the PS5 is BC and will be able to play DVD's as well as Blu-rays, I've already given my PS4 to my sister. But, even then it was only used for the FF7 Remake. Now, she barely touches it. Told her we could sell it, get around $200 and split it.

For me personally, if a new console offers BC & plays most disc formats, there's absolutely no need for me to keep the previous console. It's just hoarding in my eyes. If you're collecting, then if you want, keep it. But I don't like things sitting around not getting used.

I’m still on gen 7 (Xbox 360 & PS3)... I skipped this generation as I just got back into gaming last year, figured I’d wait for this generation to catch up to the rest of the community.

I will keep them. I’ll put them back in their boxes and into storage.

I will keep make sure XboxOne + ps4 have all the digital games i own(not rent from PS+/Gold)

Make sure i have all them installed until Hard Drive is 100% full

and then box em up..e

Probably when the 1st large games comes out on new console that i will buy.

So 3-5 months after release i expect to box em up and closet em

next to the Xbox360 & PS3..

*selling em makes no sense as i'd only regret it down the line.

**Then again this generation relied too much on digital eveything compared to PS3/360.

*I doubt i would be able to install a PS4 random game in 2030 like MetalGearSolid V or The LastOfUs1 and expect it to work without a patch..

*I'm sure there wil be patches available but that's not the point.

I don't care if a new console has Backwards Compatibility, I will always keep my last-gen consoles and when it's time to finally put it up, I store it in my garage with the rest of my old consoles/Handhelds.

Voted: Keep it, put it in a storage.

I got a PSPro in 2019, so i am not eager to jump onto the PS5 bandwagon.

I guess, as long as there are games i haven't played this current gen, i'll keep it.

Honestly, I see absolutely no reason to get rid of these consoles, especially if you have the slim versions that will almost certainly last for many years to come. BC doesn't work with absolutely every game, as I learned back when the PS2 came out and it wouldn't let me finish Grandia.
