Hey guys.

It’s my first time posting here and I am thrilled to be part of a community. I can’t wait to see what 2018 brings, especially for gaming. One of my main thoughts has been where the gaming scene will be heading this time around. Will Virtual reality finally rise in popularity or will we stick to our classic couch potato gaming? Personally, I like the gaming scene just the way it is. Just the right amount of virtual engagement. What do you guys think?

@rainmaster: Hi and welcome.

Based on what I know, don't think Virtual Reality will be anything more than a novelty for sometime at least. People like holding a controller, it just feels good in hand, and that's why it has worked for decades. Just like 3D televisions, VR is not a highly desired piece of technology, and unlike 3D televisions can't be used socially; would even state it's a very anti-social device.

I think calling the preferred method of gaming "couch potato gaming" a bit provocative, seeing as the VR experience isn't exactly Wii Fit. Yet I see your angle.

Regardless VR technology is still a niche product, but is seeing some success. Not my thing personally but that's fine, tried it way-back, all it did was make me feel unwell and dizzy. So, not something I care for.

As for 2018, for me it's going to be great, a lot of games I'm excited to play.

@rainmaster: welcome to gamespot.

i'd have to agree with @RSM-HQ in that vr will be something of a novelty for another year or two yet. it's still at a price point that's a little prohibiting and the tech is still a bit ungainly. and there's no guarantees it'll ever become mainstream but having used it (we have a vive and psvr at work) i really like it and, once they iron out a few kinks and immersion breakers along with getting it to an affordable entry point, i think it'll take off

Have you seen VR chat? That's a very scary future......

Really tho I think we will see the whole space continue to expand. Better content on all fronts.

I'm wondering when we will see a wireless VR solution with no compromises. That's what I'm waiting for before I take the plunge.

Plenty of good traditional games to come in 2018.

more people might come to conclusion that VR is worth the price if there was actually a way for people to experience it without buying one or knowing someone who has one. But for now, the price keeps people away, which makes devs/publishers reluctant to invest in a ground-up VR experience, so what you get instead is "vr compatible" game experiences that don't really take full advantage of the tech.

anyway...hoping for the first God Of War game I actually like. Never liked Kratos, never really cared for the combat, but this new GoW looks like a good change.

I'd like to see an upgraded version of VR set on PS4 Pro. So much looking forward to these features: wireless, better helmet screen resolution and field of vision.

Also, these upcoming games (!):

There aren't that many upcoming games that I'm excited for; if anything I have a whole lot of catch-up to do.

As for vr, I don't think people are overly impressed with the current batch. And more advanced versions will take time so we'll see.
