What is your favorite console of all time?

HappyConsoleGamer says his new favorite console is the Switch. I think the Switch is awesome, definitely a top 5, maybe even a top 3 for me. PS1 will always have a special place for me as well. But if I’m thinking about today, the PS5 is a good contender right now because it’s BC with PS4. So if you already liked the PS4, then the PS5 is a no brainer. What makes PS5 special too is the Final Fantasy support. FF7 Remake, FF16, so many other great games too. So I’m leaning towards PS5. How about you, GD?

The SNES. It had my favourite game of all time -- Super Mario World. The controller was great too; it had shoulder buttons, which was innovative at the time. 😃

That would be the SNES for me. So many fond memories of playing many of my all time favourite games on it such as:

- Chrono Trigger

- Final Fantasy III

- Super Mario World

- Super Metroid

- Sparkster

- Super Castlevania IV

- Contra III: The Alien Wars

- Legend of the Mystical Ninja

- Final Fight

- Street Fighter II

- Mega Man X

- Breath of Fire I and II

I could go on and on.

@girlusocrazy: Yeah, I’m sure one could look at it that way as well. I just went with how I felt about the systems and games when I first initially played them.

I dont own the ps5 yet or else it might be on my list. But for now i would say the playstation 2. Huge game list that had amazing games on it. I still have my console aswell.

I’m going to say the N64.

Nostalgia wise, probably Gamecube.

But overall, it's hard to go past the Switch.

Today it's the Xbox Series X, and yes I own a Switch that is used as a console only, and a PS5. Back in the day it would have to be the ColecoVision, best console ever.

Honestly nothing offered up by Sony, MS, or Nintendo has really impressed me in the last couple decades.

I guess I'd say it's a three-way tie between the Sega Genesis, Super Nintendo, and Game Boy.

Honorable mention goes to N64 but honestly the only thing I ever played on that was Goldeneye for the multiplayer.

The GameCube. I love Nintendo, and GC was Nintendo at its finest. Great graphics, great controller, awesome games. Can't ask for more.

Too bad they went all out on gimmicks after that. Made Nintendo feel so unfocused, washed out and meh.

Nostalgia wise SNES overall PS2.

Still the SNES, if every console vanished from this earth and I could only keep one: it'd be the SNES.

It also had the perfect controller for 16-bit games

I would have to say the SNES. My gaming library wasn't vast as it is today, but I loved playing Super Mario World and Donkey Kong Country on that console. Other consoles were great, like the PS2 and PS3, but the joyful experiences weren't at the same level as the SNES.

If handhelds count, 3DS (I don't need to go into details the library of the DS and 3DS speaks for itself. Much better than Switch and doesn't have the drift issue, also local wifi play is better and unlike Switch allows mic chat in many its multiplayer games.)

If they don't, PS5 (does everything from an upgrade standpoint I found lacking in a PS4, now if only they can expand the backwards compatibility 'PS3 content' and remove pay to play multiplayer it would be a near perfect console.)

Oh snap, 3DS had a mic? Lol, I don’t remember that.

For god-like gamers like us, the PC-Masterrace, this is like asking:

It's a tie between the 3DS and Switch, honestly. In terms of my most fond memories with a console, that'd have to be the GameCube.

Honourable mention to the Vita: so amazing but it died before the world could see it's potential. Everything everyone loves about the switch was already true of it before.

For me it's between the mega drive and the ps1 playing ridge Racer for the first time will always stay with me. Such an upgrade over 16 bit hardware.

If PC is "extra shiny console ports" now, then i assume Consoles are "cheap trash hardware" now?

Nothing wrong with factual notes/ preference debating hardware differences. However this isn't the forum for hyperbolic attitude about who's plastic trinket is better than whoever's.

@SolidGame_basic: Depending on the games you play on the hardware, it may not have been very relevant anyhow.

Plenty well known DS/3DS games never used mic even in the multiplayer modes- New Super Mario Bros, Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Kirby: Ultra Super Deluxe, and all the DS CastleVania games.

I love all these games but compared to the hundreds of hours I sink into MH, it's night and day difference.

PS5 for the same reason TC posted. Sega Saturn is also up there but PS5 is number 1.

@RSM-HQ: I was going to mention the Switch. You make an excellent point about its library not being up to par. Its pretty bad when I got 80 bucks on my e-shop wallet and I leave without buying anything even though I WANTED TO. Does the 3DS count as a console? I don't think so.

I only own a Switch and PC but in regard to this question; based on my limited knowledge, in a perfect world I would own a Steam Deck and PS5.

@angry_walrus: You are correct that I too wouldn't count a 3DS as a console, it is clearly a handheld/ portable device. However with all the Switch love I like to remind those how great the 3DS is ツ

I would like to add, that the PS2 was quiet the workhorse.... For its time it was magnificent. Just think about that console's lifespan and the titles it had. During my childhood I think I must have spent over $1000 on games.

Others will of course love to tout the greatness of the 360; I will leave that to them: whomever they may be.
